COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flashback Anniversary Ale is an India Brown Ale with 6.8% ABV. This is the first beer we’ve made here that uses one single hop variety (Cascade) in the recipe in five separate additions. The fresh Cascade hop aroma and flavor is perfectly balanced with the dark roasted grains, making Flashback a very unique beer. We’re calling it an India Brown Ale to help illustrate its flavor to the consumer. It’s hoppy like an IPA but dark and roasty like a Brown Ale. Put them together and voila! Flashback at its finest!

We at Boulder Beer Company are SO excited to announce the release of our 30th Anniversary commemorative beer...Flashback Anniversary Ale! Flashback will be available in 4/6/12oz cases, 15.5 gallon kegs and 5.16 gallon kegs. It will be available to ship beginning Monday, May 4th and will be available through September.

Paying homage to our roots and celebrating our milestone 30th Anniversary, we give you Flashback Anniversary Ale, an India Brown Ale single-hopped with five additions of Cascade hops. Citrusy with a prominent hop aroma, Flashback finishes clean, crisp and dry, with dark roasted flavors from the biscuit and chocolate malts perfectly complimenting the bountiful Cascades.

Flash back to 1979 and you’ll find two professors at the University of Colorado in Boulder longing for the full-flavored tastes of the British ales they had grown to love while traveling overseas. Testing the entrepreneurial waters with a little project called a microbrewery, they began brewing and selling a few of their own. There begins the tale of Boulder Beer Company, Colorado’s First Microbrewery. From the original Bitter, Porter and Stout recipes that founded our brewery to our exciting new releases, Boulder Beer continues to uphold our tradition of innovation in brewing.

Flashback Anniversary Ale is the 9th Release in our Looking Glass Series of specialty beers. Discover all of our award-winning beers at BoulderBeer.com.

Wonderful-looking beer. Dark, but with a bright ruby-redness. Head is foamy and lasting, with super-glue lace. Mouthfeel is creamy up front; crisp and snappy toward the finish. Wholesome malt flavors. Very toasted and roasted, with flavors of scones, nuts, twigs, toffee and bitter chocolate. Dare I call it an Imperial Brown? Bold hops are full of evergreen aromas, along with wildflowers, grass and a bit of orange peel. Quite a bit of bitterness as well. Really nice brown.

Draft nitro. Thick creamy head, deep caramel color, a little cloudy. Hoppy nose but sweet thick malty taste.

Tap. Pours clear amber/brown with thin, creamy off-white head; short retention and spare lacing. Aroma caramel malt, figs, earthy hops, light honey, and faint pine. Flavor is malt forward with good supporting hops and faint fruit esters; dry finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

10oz pour draft. brownish red color malty woody aroma. flavor about the same. brown ale that has something sweet in it that i coldnt determine, but it wasnt a bad thing...some sort of nuttiness to it. decent lacing around the glass.

Poured from the 12oz bottle into a shaker. Dark translucent brown with a modest cream head. Aroma is biscuity and nutty with just a touch of piney hops- was expecting more hop aroma based on the description. Flavor starts off with some chocolate malt and transitions into citrusy and spicy hops. A little lighter bodied than I would have liked. Overall this was good, but I would have liked the malt flavors to be a little more developed. This sort of came across like a black IPA that missed the mark and turned out brown. Again, good beer, but definitely could have been better.

this is a nice looking beer. mahogany with finger of head. smells like a sweet brown ale with a hint of hops. the hoppiness is much bigger in the taste. the brown ale underneath is a winner, and the hops mix well.

Amerish in color. Light hop aroma. Super smooth, a bit "buttery" with strong malt character and a raisiny finish. Notes: From a brewery visit during GABF

Aroma is a mix of piney hops and caramel nuttiness. The flavor is citrus/grapefruit, resinous hops, some caramel malt sweetness and a dry, medium bitter finish.

Clear dark red amber with a rocky off-white head and good spidery lace. Beers always need a balance - they can’t be too heavy for the style or the alcohol. Flashback is both: it starts with a big sweet burnt caramel malt that continues to grow until the hops move to overbalance. There is a lot going on, but, as a total package, it doesn’t work here. Drinkable, not re-peatable.
