Amerish in color. Light hop aroma. Super smooth, a bit "buttery" with strong malt character and a raisiny finish.

Bottle from Breeze Thru last time I breezed through there. Probably cellared for 2 months. Pours a clear coppery amber with almost no head. Pretty to look at. Aroma has caramel and some brown sugar, with some floral hops. Taste is caramelly and nutty, with light fruit and earthiness. Medium bodied with a bit of alcohol. Finishes sweet and tangy. Shrug? It is a brown, but a decent brew with some creativeness to it. Hints of American Strong in there. 13.8

12 oz bottle dated 27 Dec. 2010. [from Oct. 2011 notes]
Clear dark amber color with plenty of slow-rising tiny carbonation bubbles. Topped with a 1 finger creamy tan head that leaves lots of coating on the glass.
Aroma: medium roasted and caramel malts, very earthy hops, a dash of spruce, and a hint of fruit.
Despite some malty sweetness when it first hits the tongue, this is a moderately bitter beer, with more bitter than other flavors coming through from the hops. A bit of an undesirable sour note from the early finish onward, and a slight metallic note, are less noticeable is a 2nd, older sample.
Nice medium body with excellent carbonation.
O - A well-done hybrid with a fine appearance.
re-reviewed on 4/2012 using a bottle dated 27 Dec 2010. Enjoyed this MUCH more than a bottle from the same batch sampled about 6 mos. ago. Aroma and appearance remain unchanged. Ratings reflect both tastings.

Bottle....mahogany on the pour...small white foam...and some dots of lacing....citrus aroma(orange)...malts with bready rye thing happening....its an odd combo....im a brown beer fan ...but the hops over power the brown in this one...its an interesting creation and after it opens for a while it improves....where then I taste just hops on the front..then a brown ale finish...sticky on the lips...rating from 3-2-2010

"had on tap at the last brewfest i attended. not up to par with Dogfish’s indian brown, but still a nice hoppy twist on the classic style. worth a shot, but not quite enough to seek out again."

Transfer from BA review on 4-11-13-
Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – Served a copper colored brew with a one finger white head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to give a nice level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of some lightly roasted malt aromas mixed with smells of a more nutty and coffee nature as well as some notes of citrus and grass with some spice aromas of cinnamon and nutmeg. It is a rather odd combination of smells which produces a rather odd and not all that appealing aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a roasted malt flavor mixed with a lighter flavor of caramel. While there is caramel upfront it fades as the taste advances with the flavors becoming slightly more roasted and bitter as the taste moves on. Along with the loss of caramel sweetness there is an oncoming of some hop flavors of a grassy taste as well as some spice flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg. A light nuttiness joins these flavors and ends up leaving a somewhat unpleasant spiced and slightly bitter flavor on the tongue .
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is average as well. A little more body may have been nice but overall it was fitting for the style.
Overall – A brew that I did not really enjoy all that much. The flavors and the nose never really melded to well with transitions that were somewhat abrupt and disjunct. I will likely not come back to this any time soon.

On tap: The aroma consists of of light chocolate, caramel, citrus hops, and a touch of nuts. It’s a transparent copper with a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker. There is a nice sheet of lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with light-moderate chocolate and caramel with a hint of fruit. The finish has light citrus/grapefruit with a touch of roasted nuts. It’s light bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel.

This is a great bastard child of a beer. The hops of an IPA with a hint if the roasts of a brown ale.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours clear, medium chestnut, half finger creamy head, nice lacing. Aroma slight chocolate, bready, caramel malt, floral hops. Taste a bit bitter floral and earthy hops, bready malt and slight caramel. Mouthfeel medium body lower carbonation, slight hop bite, dryish finish. Overall tasty, balanced, not quite brown ipa, perhaps brown bitter, maybe imperial bitter mild?

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at the Field House. Aroma is pine cone, biscuit, and walnut. Pours brown with a nice big frothy head. Taste is an odd mix of pine hop and dirty nut shells. Overall the two tastes clashed more than they complemented. Hard to swallow.

Great Brown Ale. Hoppy like India Pale Ale, though is more mild on the toungue, so it makes this beer more drinkable. Prominent beer.
