Our 2013 hop harvest special release, fRYEd Fresh-Hopped Rye Pale Ale, will be fresh-hopped* with Chinooks from the Still Wind Hop Farm on Colorado’s Western Slope imparting tropical fruit notes to its flavor and aroma. Generous amounts of toasted rye add complexity with a spicy, nutty flavor. *Brewing with fresh off the bine (not vine!) wet hops! This provides a unique hop experience with a more complete hop flavor and aroma due to the presence of volatile oils that are normally evaporated out during the drying process. These fresh hop flowers must be used within 24 hours of harvest! Available exclusively on draft. 6% ABV / 40 IBU

Draft sample. Poured clear dark golden color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate balanced rye aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. The beer is a good drinkable brew.

Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a clear golden color with a small off white hea. The aroma and flavor have grassy, herbal hops, hints of citrus, spicy rye, toasted malts, dry, doesn’t have much flavor really, more general bitterness. Meh.

On tap poured into a sampler glass. Notes of dark rye bread, dough, light citrus, and butterscotch can be found in the aroma, along with a note of pine. The beer pours a hazy orange yellow with a creamy, off-white head that reduces to a thick fuzzy ring, with a fuzzy, solid surface layer. It leaves behind snowdrift like sheet lace. The taste is a dry, mellow, medium light sweet with a medium bitterness. The thin beer has lots of fuzzy soft carbonation and a medium light body. There’s mellow notes of rye bread, citrus, light spice, and butterscotch. It finishes dry and clean with a light, spice and citrus aftertaste.

A couple pints on tap at Dutch’s. Mostly hazy orange color. Pours with a nice, thicker off-white head, leaving decent ropes of lace. Medium plus body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Good full mouthfeel, kind of creamy. Light slickness in the finish. Nice toasty aroma, mildly spicy rye malt, biscuity. Kind of spicy tropical citrusy mildly piney hop. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Pretty solid, tasty, smooth flavorful complex rye pale ale. Nice hop balance to the rye malt, pretty tasty stuff. Great to enjoy with my sandwich. Pretty easy drinking.

On tap half pint at Gilly's Beer & Fine Wine in Rockville, MD. Clear, bright amber with an off-white head and very good lacing. Aroma of rye bread, rye spiciness, orange, mild grapefruit and pale malt. Taste of orange, rye bread, caramel, mild grapefruit and light fruit. Medium body and low/medium carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Drafting Room Exton. Poured hazy dark straw with off-white head. Nose was sprucey hops, pale malt, mild fruit. Tasted of a mix of pale and rye, didn’t get much rye in this, with hops, spice, and a medium complexity. Decent, not great.

On tap at the mad mex. Smells kindly hoppy. Cloudy orange I think, dark in this place. Decent co2 from the start. Not overly bitter yet asserts its hoppy flavors. Goes down pretty easy. Not bad! Better than expected. Yes, carries some hop personality with a slight hop bitterness but never is it over the top or in yer face. Some what sticks to the back of yer throat. Not bad overall.
