2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JUL 11, 2003 Boy, I wish I could have tried the beer that the rest of you did. I've got to say I agree that the aroma is very nice. I can definitely detect the typical perm-ishness of the Centennials. The aroma is very similar to that of Goose Island's IPA. Lots of orange fruitiness: peaches, apricots, and for the first time I spelled plums coming from the hops. A bit of mown hay also. The malt flavor is just a shame, however. Soapy, astringent, grainy, and oaken. Leaves an MSG-like aftertaste in the mouth. The appearance was a hazy (surprise) golden amber, and the mouthfeel carbonation was right on, just disrupted by the prominent aftertaste. The bottom line is that it smells great from the dry hopping, but the ale base is not much better than something like Berghoff's Pale Ale.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours amber with a off white head. Taste is floral, sweet. I thought this was good. I would drink this again.

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Pours brown with an inch of white foam. Doesn’t leave much lacing. A slight piney vibe on the nose. A little bit of a hop flavour there much defiantly is missing something

Bottle. Nose packs a big wallop of hops for a pale ale - fragrant with fresh citrus peel and notes of crushed pine needles. Flavor is a very nice balance of fruity caramel malt with bright citrus-like hops and finishing with a soft bitterness and lots of citrusey resin coating the mouth. Drinks like a Stone IPA toned just a step down. Great stuff - maybe the best session pale Iíve had even considering the new crop of high hop low abv stuff (Founderís All Day, Central Waters Hop Rise) etc. that has been coming out lately. Extra point for being an originator of this type of beer in the US.

Wow, I've had this plenty of times and always assumed it was an IPA. Good use of hops with nice malty undertones.

Not bad, not offensive, but lacking any true flavor. Middle of the road, many worse, but many better.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle poured into an NBB globe glass. Amber and slightly hazy with an off-white head and lacing. Fresh, fruity and hoppy aroma (citrus, tropical). Similar flavor, sweet and bitter with bready malts balancing things out. Light to medium body with a refreshing finish. Solid pale ale with a nice aroma, better than I remember.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
FROM NOTES: July 21, í12
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.
A: Definitely a signature dry-dopped smell. Slightly piney, but still that fruity hoppy aroma.
A: Pours a hazy, light amber with a 1/2 finger of head and good lacing.
T: The hops are the star here, and stay in the spotlight, but itís balanced perfectly by sweet malts for a smooth and non-bitter finish.
P: Medium bodied, medium carbonation and very crisp and smooth.
O: Flavorful and balanced versus the hop-bombs that most APAís have become. Very drinkable.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark amber color with a thick head. Aroma is resin and leather. Lightly bitter. This is a good inexpensive beer, but there is not much to say for it. As a pale ale, itís unusually maltly, but other than that not very exciting.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle - via Ale in the Mail. Copper color - cloudy. Slightly hoppy aroma. OK. More malty than hoppy and a bit of crystal malt.
