COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Magic happened this year in Boulder, CO, when local music and local beer came together. In search of the perfectly drinkable, yet flavorful, festival beer, the Boulder Beer brewers and avid homebrewer Kyle Hollingsworth, Keyboardist of the String Cheese Incident, joined creative forces. Imagination and improvisation flowed freely, and Hoopla was born.

Hoopla Pale Ale is dry-hopped with generous amounts of Glacier hops for a fruity, floral hop aroma and flavor that will have your taste buds dancing! Its lively hop character is wonderfully balanced with a crisp, clean finish from the unique blend of US and German grains, making Hoopla the perfect companion to festival season.

“We wanted to make a beer that was hoppy, but still appetizing to non-hop-drinkers and drinkable on hot days at summertime festivals,” Kyle explains about the recipe.

Hazy copper, big beige head. Smells like bready and a little piney. Flavor leans a bit towards the malty, caramel end of the spectrum, although it seems a little bit more hoppy than the aroma suggests. Not bad.

The aroma is hoppy with grassy hops, malt and earth. The appearance is amber with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma with a chemical finish. The palate is average. Overall this is just an average beer.

Mild aroma, with hints of pine and biscuit malts. Pours a clear amber, with a full white head. There’s a sharp bite of hops at the beginning, that quickly fade, and allow for a lingering bitterness. There are subdued floral notes present, and a touch of bread/biscuit from the malts. This has a light mouthfeel, and is very easy drinking. I will say that this is much better then I expected it would be. I’ll be picking up more of this as the weather warms up.

Bomber from Nugget Market in Woodland, CA. Pours hazy copper with a 4 finger creamy/frothy head. This is floral over roast caramel. I’m thinking more ESB than APA. Almost medium body. Flavor is mild roast malt with a pretty much floral hop overtone. Might be a bit hoppy for our friends Over The Pond, but I’m still thinking ESB. Beautiful presentation and florally hoppy finish. Very nice.

Clear copper and light amber coloured body with a nice sized, rather soapy off-white head. Aroma of light grassy and herbal hops with a bit of a grapefruit smell, some light malt and a touch of honey. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and herbal hops with a bit of an english bite, some light malt backbone with a subdued nutty and caramel flavour near the end. Aftertaste is a bit nutty, a bit herbal and a strong assertive grass hop character. Overall, an okay beer - not great, but not bad at all, a bit light on the hops, but about right for an APA. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 09-October-2011 for US$4.99 sampled at home in Washington on 20-November-2011.

Scrapersnbeer (447) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 19, 2011
Standard pale’s floral pine-hop smell, deep orange and not quite clear. Taste is surprising, with more malt noticeable than hops, but still bitter and even a little skunky. Decent bite from medium body. Takes a few sips to get used to, but ok. From a jam band musician no less.

A hazy, copper pour with a rocky, off-white head. The aroma is earthy with some floral hops and light bread. The light body has a thin texture with average carbonation. The taste is mildly bitter with a semi-dry finish.

Pours coppery with an off white head. Aroma is bready, light caramel, piney herbal hop. Hops have an initial bitter bite on the tongue, then the caramel and bready malts take the front seat.
