COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Working on a winter seasonal, our brewers fell through the Looking Glass and found themselves staring right in the bloodshot eye of a penguin gone bad. Bigger, bolder and with even more attitude than Igloo Ale, the smooth, spiced, high gravity Killer Penguin Strong Ale puts the "hot" in winter warmer. Grains: British Dark Caramel Malt, U.S. 2-Row Barley. Hops: Nugget, Willamette, Cascade and Top-Secret Brewmaster's Spice.

NOTE: This entry is for the spiced versions (made prior to 2005).

Pours a golden orange hue with a halo of a head. Aromas of spice, honey, roasted malt with flavors of the same. This bottle was about 3 years old, so they say, and the alcohol was barley noticable.

Nice combination of malt and spice in the aroma, plenty of nutmeg and ginger. Astringency takes hold in the flavor and detracts from the enjoyment. Eliminate the astringent qualities and you have yourself a very good beer, as it is it’s still pretty nice.

Thanks to Eyedrinkale. Rich gold with a thin tan head. Nose is buttery, vinous, light brown sugar. A bit hot with butter/butterscotch and rich malt.

Nice hoppy aroma, cloudy brown, tiny tan head. Soft malty flavour, caramel, and a mild citrus. Light bodied, creamy, with some bitterness towards the end. Pretty good.

Copper in color with a decent off-white head, nice lacing, big malty & spicy nose, very strong & upfront body, hints of chocolate, caramel & fruits in the flavors

Had this beer on 4/2/2003. Aroma is a sweet malt scent like you would expect from a Scottish Ale. Color is a rich clear amber with very good carbonation and a nice head. Taste is malty and bitter. Starting with a full body that goes down with a mellow sharpness. Finish is a sweet rich malt flavor backed by quick bitterness. In the end it leaves you with a warm alcohol feel.

Amber like with small disappearing crowning. Sweet, fruity aroma, good solid malt. Plums , alcohol at front , fruity and malty behind . Maybe not best but surely its very interesting brew.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2011 Dark orange and slightly murky. Pours with a decent head, with a strong, wafting nose of straw, cherries, burnt malts, plum, cinnamon, a symphony of various spices, and an undertone resembling most Belgian quadrupels. Citric acidity of grapefruit and orange peel, pineapple, pine and dark fruit from the hops, and a nice pleasent orange bite in the middle, before it settles out into a wood and grapefruit flavored finish. Needs a bit more holding up the hops, though.
