COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Working on a winter seasonal, our brewers fell through the Looking Glass and found themselves staring right in the bloodshot eye of a penguin gone bad. Bigger, bolder and with even more attitude than Igloo Ale, the smooth, spiced, high gravity Killer Penguin Strong Ale puts the "hot" in winter warmer. Grains: British Dark Caramel Malt, U.S. 2-Row Barley. Hops: Nugget, Willamette, Cascade and Top-Secret Brewmaster's Spice.

NOTE: This entry is for the spiced versions (made prior to 2005).

Deep garnet red in colour, short lived off-white head. Sweet pineapple taste, strong hop presence with an equally present hop aftertaste. Finest lacing clings to the glass all of the way to the bottom. All of the characteristics of a world-class west coast IPA; grapefruit, pine, orange, pineapple, rather acidic. Pleasant malty balance, with a touch of spice in the aftertaste.

Reddish orange color with an off white head. Sweet carmel, sugar candy aroma with some florals. Some veggies in the taste along with some sweetness and some bitterness. This one may have been past its prime but still enjoyable.

A nice barelywine, smooth but not the most interesting. Pours a beautiful clear red with a tan head. Smells of bourbon, caramel and apple cinnamon. Taste is creamy, with a lot of maltiness, more caramel and cinnamon, and some green apple and booziness in the finish. Paired with Mac & Cheese Balls, a booziness and spiciness is brought out that lingers. Happy 998.

Pours a golden orange hue with a halo of a head. Aromas of spice, honey, roasted malt with flavors of the same. This bottle was about 3 years old, so they say, and the alcohol was barley noticable.

Nice combination of malt and spice in the aroma, plenty of nutmeg and ginger. Astringency takes hold in the flavor and detracts from the enjoyment. Eliminate the astringent qualities and you have yourself a very good beer, as it is it’s still pretty nice.

Thanks to Eyedrinkale. Rich gold with a thin tan head. Nose is buttery, vinous, light brown sugar. A bit hot with butter/butterscotch and rich malt.

Nice hoppy aroma, cloudy brown, tiny tan head. Soft malty flavour, caramel, and a mild citrus. Light bodied, creamy, with some bitterness towards the end. Pretty good.

Pour at the Coney Island beer festival at mcu park. Dark brown barley wine style with a sweet bready taste

Copper in color with a decent off-white head, nice lacing, big malty & spicy nose, very strong & upfront body, hints of chocolate, caramel & fruits in the flavors

Had this beer on 4/2/2003. Aroma is a sweet malt scent like you would expect from a Scottish Ale. Color is a rich clear amber with very good carbonation and a nice head. Taste is malty and bitter. Starting with a full body that goes down with a mellow sharpness. Finish is a sweet rich malt flavor backed by quick bitterness. In the end it leaves you with a warm alcohol feel.
