darn1207 (528), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Mar 5, 2008 bomber. clear light orange pour with white head and a fair amount of lacing. citrus aroma. thin palate for a DIPA. taste of syrpy malt and apricot. has a good warmth to it. easy drinking for the 10% alcohol. imperial ipa’s are my favorite type -- so I like it. but a bit of a letdown within the style. comes off a bit weak. cykyc (28), USA Mar 4, 2008 Considering it’s a double IPA, it has a light hops aroma. The beer has a clear, translucent body with a reddish amber hue.
Mmm, but the taste...
This might not be a good time to rate a beer, since I’ve just got off of a 5 hour road trip and have craved a good brew the whole time. But the flavor is surprising. It has a typical strong hops introduction, which makes sense for a double IPA. But, I tasted two aftertastes on my initial hit. The first was an almost iron tinge to the flavor. The other was a malty-hoppy mixture at the end. It’s a really complex taste that’s hard for me to describe. Would definitely drink again!
jcr (1136), Jasper, Indiana, USA Mar 2, 2008 Bottle. A straightforward double IPA. Orange-amber body below an modest off-white head. Aroma is mostly citrus — grapefruit and orange with some resin. Behind that is light malty honey-like sweetness. The flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet, but turns moderately bitter on the back of the tongue along with a slight plasticy flavor. Alcohol also apparent in the dry finish. Medium to full body with a slightly sticky texture. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Mar 2, 2008 Deep amber/copper color with a fizzy off white head. Pine and citrus aromas. Flavors of hops and citrus. Solid IPA imo, but not the best. Darkover (1308), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 29, 2008 Clear orange color with a big beige head. Aroma of grapefruit and piney hops. Flavor of tangy citrus hops and sweet malts. Acknud (770), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Feb 29, 2008 Frothy head with great lacing. Grapefruit aroma with a Citrus taste and finish. Slight metallic taste at the finish. michael-pollack (2601), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 27, 2008 Draught: Aroma of floral and citrus hops, pine, resin, and fruit. Poured amber in color with a small, off-white head that diminished. Clear. Sparkling. Good lacing. Medium bitter flavor. Tastes of citrus hops and grapefruit. Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Citrus hop finish. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Feb 26, 2008 12 oz bottle: Pours a tempting amber and ruby with a thick, sticky head. A nice mix of spicy and citrusy hops meet the nose. A blanket of ethery alcohol warms the hops. The body is sweet, caramel and bread, layered with intense grapefruit, orange and tangerine. Rindy hops take over from there, leading this into a bitter finish. A very well built DIPA - not quite as complex as you would expect from a high ABV brew, but still good.
