Commercial Description:
Only 120 precious barrels were brewed, adding more than half a ton of extra malt and twice the amount of Amarillo hops, so prepare your self for a full sensory explosion. The double dry-hop addition elevates the grapefruit-like aroma and flavor to an outrageous intensity, while the added malt raises the alcohol level from 7% all the way to 10% by volume.

Pours a golden amber color and keeps a thin head for the duration of the pour. The aroma is more malt than hop. The taste is not as hoppy as I would have expected. The smack of the hops that I was expecting was somewhat overshadowed by the sweetness of the malts. The balance is more towards the malt side than I prefer in a DIPA. The alcohol is well-masked though and this is an easy drinker. A good but not outstanding DIPA. I actually preferred it’s Mojo sibling.

Bottle. Nose is citrus hops, no much else. Opaque to red-orange with small and sporatic but active carbonation. Head is patchy with small tight bubbles. Leaves strong lacing, very nice looking. Well-contained bitterness, hints of lemon and pine. Palate is smooth and full-bodied. Really nicely balanced showing good hop character without being over the top.

22oz bottle-pours a retaining foamy light tan head that laces and gold color. Aroma is nice c hops with some medium malt-sweetness. Taste is nice c hops-grapefruit/pine, some medium malt-sweetness/caramel, slightly bitter. A bit of resin/plastic and alcohol. OK/mild carbonation.

Golden orange pour with a thin white head. Resinous piney hop aroma, lots of sweetness and some grapefruit. Mouthfeel is creamy and almost full-bodied. Hops bring a lot of bitterness upfront along with some medium carbonation. Lots of grapefruit and citrus. Lots of flavor in this one, all hops but balanced with a pretty pronounced malty finish. No alcohol evident. Pretty good double.

The beer pours from the 22 ounce brown bottle a nice gold color with a modest bright white creamy head that dissipates slowly, leaving an encircling cover of lace to hide the glass. Nose has a big hop presence, sweet malt, a nice portent of things to come. Start is nicely malted, hop bitter and the top light to moderate in feel. Finish is sternly acidic, somewhat sweet, the hops biting in their spiciness, quite dry and lingering aftertaste, another nice beer for hop lovers.

22 oz bottle from a trade (sorry, don’t recall who). Hazy orange-amber color with a small off white head that leaves spotty lace. Citrus and floral aromas, juicy, fruity malts, grapefruit and piney notes. Sweet, summer fruits, floral and pine with grapefruit and an astringent finish which becomes more prominent as it warms. Smooth, medium body and gentle carbonation.

Pours gold with a good amount of white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, and pine. Flavor was much the same but I felt this to be a little weak for a double IPA. Good beer, but not near the top of its class.

Bottle from Friar Tuck in Savoy, IL. Pours a hazy amber with a nice turbulent eggshell head. Good lacing. Aroma of lemony and grapefruit hops. Medium bodied with a very subtle stickiness. Initial flavor of pale malts and honey that transitions to a nice grapefruit and citrus bitterness mid palate. Hoppy and semi dry finish, with alcohol well hidden. Some moderate lingering resin on the palate. Reminds me of a second string Bells Hopslam. Not bad
