Boulder Beer Mojo Risin

Had this at a local happy hour....lucky me! This was special but I did not have the time to let it sink in.

bottle: pours a clear hay colour witha big white foamy head. aroma is heavy grapefruit and pine hop earthy and a litte bitter in the nose. flavour is bitter hop and lots of it very piney and earthy. it finishes dry and bitter. very little sweetness in it. so not very balanced. after taste of bitter stays around a bit.

Bottle and served in my GI IPA Tulip: Pours a clean deep golden hue with a fading but lasting frothy ring which left good lace on the glassware. <P> The aroma has notes of leafy hops and citrus hop esters of pine, grass, pineapple and blood orange. Additional there is a perfume and soapy character that is a bit of put off. Biscuity and some earthy notes as well on the nose.<P> The taste is mostly a dry hopped resin overtone with citric background on top of pale malt background. Not a lot of depth but does display the primary IIPA nature. The finish is some powdered allspice and hint of yeasty chalkiness. The mouth feel is spritzy and biting and does a good job of hiding the alcohol (10% really?)

A good brew but not in the same class of the better IIPA out there. Worth a try but do not expect to be blown away.

Good amount of sweet caramel malt and a little bit of spicy floral hops. Hop flavor is very moderate for the style. No alcohol apparent at all. Just a bit of citrus from the hops. Mouthfeel is a little thin, but overall creamy and smooth. Not getting hardly any bitterness. Just enough to hold off some sweetness. While the hops are a little scarce, this is an extremely easy drinking beer. They deserve credit for making such a big beer that doesn’t come off that way.

22 oz. bottle, shared with a green eyed lady. Perfumey, citric, toasty malt nose. Light honey orange amber hue. Pale malt presence, sweet enough to balance the bitterness...Alcohol is pretty much well hidden, would never have said 10 hey...Medium-full body, although seeming thin at some points. Grapefruit, conifer resin, herbal hops, through a long lingering finish. Something is lacking in this beer, i just can’t put my finger on it...It was strong enough, though, to get me to make an ass of myself in front my my friends...at least after it was followed by several irish car bmbs. take off yer skirt...

Tap somewhere in Boston. Almost clear golden body topped by a small white head. Powerful aroma of full hop umbels. Oily body full of hops resin. Grapefruits taste and prevailing sensation of drinking an entire hop plant. Not only did it fell like a 7% but it was also very drinkable. Almost felt “light”. Strong hop fix that is dangerously drinkable. Will surely be the cause of a lot of decadent behaviours. Mr Mojo Risin himself would be proud.

3/23/2007: On tap at Dilly Deli... Mojo Risin’ pours a clear golden copper color with a diminishing white head. The aroma is a subtle blend of citrus, most noteably grapefruit. Juicy orange and grapefruit hop flavors rest upon a light caramel and biscuit malt sweetness. There is a nice spiciness in the finish as well. The aroma and flavor scream HOPS!, but overall this beer is only moderately bitter which is good because it helps keep everything nicely balanced. This beer is smooth and has a light creaminess to it. Very good overall. This beer has 10% ABV in it?! If so, then Boulder Beer did a great job at hidding in somewhere behind all that hop flavor. Holy crap, I better slow down... This thing drinks like a session beer! 16 oz draught. Rating: 8 4 8 3 16 = 3.9.

4/17/2007: 22 oz bottle shared by Rob and tasted side by side with the regular Boulder Beer Mojo IPA... Boulder Beer Mojo Risin’ pours an amber color with an off-white head. The aroma is packs with lots of hoppy goodness and some malt. It has about 1.5X to 2X more orange and caramel flavors and bitterness than the regular Mojo IPA. Medium-full body and quite smooth. Still very good, but I think that the draught version is a bit better than the bottle version overall...

Draft at Dilly Deli. Strong citrus aroma, orange color that could almost pass for Orange Crush, pleasant if somewhat light body and light citrus/hoppy taste. Decent if not earthshattering.
