Pours a bright clear amber color with an inch of fizzy white head. Aromas of sharp flowery citrus with some chalky aspirin, some grainy sweet malt notes in the background. Sharp bitter citric bite on the front end; hop character sticks throughout, on the one dimensional side. Chalky aspirin from the nose follows through into the flavor. Alcohol is well hidden in the flavor, overpowered by the aggressive bitterness. Palate is on the clean and even side for a 10% DIPA, with a clean finish. Drinkable. Decent DIPA, though lacking in any real depth to the hop profile. alebrewer (121), Mentor, Ohio, USA

This beer is a wonderful marriage of a lot of hops and a great deal of malt. Huge hop aroma but the flavor is so well balanced you don’t know how highly hopped or high in alcohol it is. Be careful this one is sneaky! NachlamSie (1637), Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 15, 2009 Bottle. Pours cloudy orange with a small head. The aroma is very powerful and certainly hoppy, but not super bitter or sharp. This is juicy, fruity, citrusy with hints at oranges and lemon. The palate is noticeably thick with a very sticky, coating feel. Heavy doughy malts are present without being too sweet. The finish sports a little bitter twang. This is a big beer with a heavy mouthfeel, apparent alcohol, and huge flavors, however this is really lacking in the hop department by IIPA standards. The malts are extremely prominent without being very complex; they merely subtract from the hops’ full potential. Odd that Boulder’s seemingly hoppiest beer is their lowest alcohol session ale. bubbleflubber (892), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 10, 2009 On draught, pours an orange-amber with a nice white sudsy head that leaves soapy lace. The nose is floral. Light malts and citrus on top of a bitter back. Just doesn’t feel big enough for an Impy IPA. The mouthfeel is thin, but not watery. A definite hit of alcohol at the end of the pull, that tries to complement the bitters, but unfortunately, not thick enough for the style. Too bad. rajendra82 (700), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2009 The body was clear, peach colored, and lightly carbonated, and the head that formed after a normal pour was small and short lived, but left a good bit of lacing. The smell really let me down. It would have been a decent and pleasantly hoppy smelling beer had it been any other style, but as a DIPA, it was too bland. The taste was a bit unusual for the style as well as it was a little too under attenuated and sweet, but then backed with a bitter punch. Sticky and quite dense in the mouth, which was accentuated further by the lack of decent carbonation, but I didn’t mind, as I like my beers more substantial. A beer that just seemed to be indecisive in its approach. doboy (177), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA

Taste was, well, Hoppy! Some sweet and citrus from the hops. the mouthfeel is nice and velvety. Lt. Dan has it right! I’m ready to get my MOJO RISIN’! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 2, 2009 Appearance: Pours a beautiful amber with a thick creamy 1 inch head. It’s translucent with a small amount of RISIN’ bubbles.
Aroma: Grapefruit and light amounts of bready malt.
Taste: Starting out, the beer comes across as sweet, then mildly bitter and citrusy hops roll across your tongue. The bitterness lingers, but it is not overbearing. I definitely tasted caramel malts, and citrus flavors of orange, grapefruit and lemon.
Mouthfeel: Sticky and fizzy.
Overall: A fantastic version of a Double IPA. I can’t say a bad thing about this beer. I can’t get the Doors out of my head, but that is not the beers fault. CheersMate1 (789), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 2, 2009 Nice sweet malt aroma well balanced with the hops. Leans more towards the malt aroma, but still a nice balanced aroma. Nice orange appearance with a SLIGHT brown hue mixed in to give it a darker orange color. Head is nice, but fades away quickly. A nice smooth mouthfeel. I thought I had tried Bittering hop is nice, but doesn’t pack as powerful of a punch as I thought it would. The hops don’t come through as I would like them to, but this beer is still fairly good. A pretty good representation of an Imperial Double IPA. Doesn’t leave that extremely bitter taste in my mouth. Overall, fairly decent beer, but not worth $11 for a 4-pack. Very good mouthfeel.
