Only 120 precious barrels were brewed, adding more than half a ton of extra malt and twice the amount of Amarillo hops, so prepare your self for a full sensory explosion. The double dry-hop addition elevates the grapefruit-like aroma and flavor to an outrageous intensity, while the added malt raises the alcohol level from 7% all the way to 10% by volume.

Not one of the more hoppy Imperial IPAs, this one seems to emphasize the sweet malt more than the hops. In fact, the malts are quite sweet, very caramely, somewhat toasty, and lightly earthy in the finish, while the hops are heavily weighted toward orange citrus and sweet pine, but only moderate in bitterness. It’s a fairly fruity beer as well, showing ripe stone and tropical fruits and orange marmalade. The nose is also sweet-smelling, fruity, caramely, and quite toasty. On the palate, the beer is full bodied and a bit sugary, but the carbonation is on the low side, and it’s clearly not brewed to full dryness. The beer pours very hazy and golden-orange in color, with a thin sheet of off-white head that fades to a thin ring. Overall, this is a tasty and enjoyable beer, but it’s sweet and caramely, so if you like ’em dry and very hoppy, this probably shouldn’t be high on your list to seek out.

"funny..i like their smaller hoppy beers better. this one comes off as too thick and resiny for me, although it’s still good. there’s a biscuity character as well...good, it just doesn’t hold up to the highest standards of the style."

Pours an orange/amber color with slight head. Nose is like a bag of oranges - strong and nice nose. Taste has some citrus, pine and bitterness - but there is something a drop off - still good, but not "elite" double IPA. Can definitely pick up the alcohol, too. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Transfer from BA review on 6-3-13- Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a beautiful clear amber color with a half finger of white head. The head sits around for quite some time eventually slowly fading over time to leave a nice level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is big and sweet with a decent hop hit. The sweet is a mix of caramel and lots of tropical fruits of tangerine and mango. The hop aromas are mainly of a citrus nature and have some other smells of a floral nature as well. Rounding out these sweeter and hopped aromas is a light alcohol smell as well as a bit of breadiness, overall creating one very pleasant smell. Taste – The taste begins with a bready base mixed with some sweeter fruit and caramel. With these flavors so too comes a grapefruit citrus hop taste. The grapefruit grows stronger more toward the end of the taste where it is joined by some other hop of a pine nature. More toward the middle of the taste the fruit flavors of tangerine get quite a bit stronger in flavor, matching the increase in the grapefruit hop nicely. With the arrival of the pine, so too come some grassy flavors as well as a moderately strong alcohol flavor. These flavors, when all combined, take the taste to its finish were a semi-sweet mainly citrus hopped and lightly boozed flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather thick with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower to average side. Both are fine for the style which when mixed with the boozy tastes keep it a slower sipper of a beer. Overall – The look and aroma of the beer are quite fantastic. The taste is decent as well as it has an alright blend of sweet and hop with a nice warming taste and feel.

12oz pour into tulip. Clear orangy gold colour. About 1 finger of head, light lacing. Big pine, orange aroma. Also slightly floral, hint of alcohol. Very smooth going down. Bitter. Taste of alcohol is well hidden. A solid double IPA that I’ll look for in the future.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a thick frothy head. Subtle, hoppy aroma. Strong, grapefruit and tart taste. Dry hoppy finish. You can definitely sense the power in this one. Really good brew,

On tap at Brews Brothers in Madison. Orange gold cot with nice white head. Very floral aroma. This beer has an amazing floral and slightly tropical flavor. Sweet malt comes through as it warms. Long bitter finish with a strong oily feel. Warms well. Very good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft into a baby tulip - nose is citrus and caramel. Sip adds grapefruit with an almost rye aftertaste. Light body at first whilst sipping but gets heavier shortly afterwards. I have stopped commenting on appearance for a long time but this lacing is phenomenal. Odd.
