3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FlacoAlto (3152) - Tucson, USA - JUN 13, 2007
Sampled May 2007
Pours with an almost brilliantly clear, amber hued, bright copper color that sits underneath a frothy, pale tan colored head that when poured vigorously produces a four-finger thick head. The aroma is nice and fruit with notes of apricot, orange peel, lychee, perhaps a touch of pineapple. Underneath the up front hop aromatics is a nice malt character, though you have to dig for it; dry, biscuit-like malt notes and notes of crushed soda crackers join a distinctively clean bread-like maltiness.
Despite its strength, the beer maintains a nice quaffable quality to it. It is a bit chewier than your average IPA, but has the requisite (at least in my mind) drinkability that is necessary for something with IPA on its lable. The beer has a light malt sweetness to it that perfectly accentuates the dominant, fruit driven hop character. Notes of apricot, candied orange peel, lychee and spectacularly ripened tangelos round out the fruit hop flavors. There is also a touch of herbal pine character here, that becomes more noticeable towards the finish and in fact melds with a sharp, slightly astringent bitterness. Even some malt flavors are noticeable; a light caramelized malt sugar note and a toasted-malty-biscuit flavor are definitely noticeable, especially in the finish.
This is perhaps not as hugely hoppy as some, but I really like how drinkable this Double IPA is. The malt lends a nice background of flavors, but ultimately supports the dominant hop character. In the end though, this could definitely use a bit more hop character, at least to satisfy the diehard hop heads out there.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 rangerred (335) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - MAY 8, 2012
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a clear, light copper with a one finger off-white head. Really good lacing and good head retention.
Smells very citrusy with grapefruit dominating. A little bit of caramel in there too.
Taste is very citrusy up front with some caramel before a strong bitterness takes hold. This bitterness is also drying making you want another sip. Alcohol is detectable through the nose but is not overwhelming. A little metallic taste too which is not real appealing.
Overall, a decent double IPA but far from the best I have had. I probably won’t pick this up again.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 rayy (11) - Ohio, USA - APR 14, 2012
(Out of a growler) Amarillo hop aroma--mango/bubblegum. Well balanced for a 10% beer. Alcohol noticeable, not overwhelming. Bitter but not too. Slight haze, golden color. Lasting head. Taste--amarillo up front, maybe some centennial at the back of the tongue.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Superkustom (2) - Maryland, USA - APR 9, 2012 does not count
Tasty!! kinda like a light Barley Wine, because of the sweetness, but the sharp bite of the hops make it stand out. A sweet bready flaver and lots of citris, with a strong punch of Amerilo hops. Some may say that they dislike the beer because of the floaters, I’m not one of them. A reall good DIPA, if they cleaned up the floaters I would rate it higher. Be warned, its 10% ABV, so no driving after a couple of these!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 PhatB420 (369) - Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA - APR 7, 2012
12oz into a pint, pours a non exciting flourish of tan flatness into the glass. Head is not withstanding, leaves a mild island ring in the middle. I thought this brew would be more demanding and prominent on the pour. Plentiful hops, pirmarliy grapefruit are abound, citrus is a staple, and bitterness that is very inviting for more. Maybe it should be colder? Maybe I got a bad batch? Bottle does not tell you when it was brewed, so you never know. I just thought I would be getting some explosive for the price. The abv is noticeable, but very gratifying and well mixed in for the type. Color is bright orange, highlighted by a slight tannish brown and copper shades. A grassy finish leaves an organic feel for a bit but then the hops jump in and slap you in the face. Nice.

you can definitely smell those extra malts but floral hops and citrus are apparent too..heavy lacing, pure white sudsy head and orange/amber clear color..tatses good equal parts sticky and tingly..high bitterness and citrus and high malty smoothness and sweetness like a stronger mojo ipa i would say tilted towards the hops in this one.. medium bodied,a bit sticky but only a bit very lasting dry finish overall im a fan

When I saw this one I thought it might be another green hop bomb IIPA, It turned out to be something very good but slightly different., Bomber pours a cloudy golden color with a fair white head and decent lacing. Smell was not as strong as most others in this style, but still had citrus and floral hops as expected. Tangerine and light spices come out in the aroma. Taste is sweet, with a drier and almost chalky finish. The malts come out when you burp. Body is at least medium with perfect carbonation. Hides the high ABV well. Glad to have tried it, and will probably try again.
