Nice reddish-brown body with an off-white, creamy head. Very visually appealing. Aroma is a mixture of spices. The taste was good but nothing impressive. A little sweet but not much. The finish was also a little sweet but not significantly. A decent winter brew.

An enjoyable winter brew - yes, this is full of spices - all the typical ones that you'd expect, but it's also got a nice chocolatey malt, some sweet fruityness and a dry finish. A nice variety of flavors to keep you interested.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopscotch (7526) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 8, 2003
Crystal clear, copper ale.
Very nice aroma... milk chocolate, vanilla, dates and Winter spices.
Well-balanced flavor. Nothing overpowering. Malty characteristics of a Scottish ale.
Fizzy mouthfeel with a short, crisp, astringent finish.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Syd (920) - Waconia, Minnesota, USA - DEC 6, 2003
Bottle pours a crystal clear amber red with a small head and little lace. The aroma has sweetness and a good hop show. The flavor is malty and hoppy with a show of spices. Overall, it is simlar to many other winter seasonals.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 lilannie (384) - State College, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 2, 2003
Aroma: Very sweet, with slight cherry, rose, and other earthy scents.
Appearance: Cherry red, medium bodied, small head.
Flavor: Mid-drink--a burst of flavors, especially chocolate-covered cherries or rasberries that linger long in the back of the throat after the end of the dink making one want more. Very sweet, flavors that fill the mouth, including tasting between the teeth.
Palate: Flavors fill the mouth--first bitter up front, followed by a loud punch of flavors, then ending smooth with flavors filling the back of the tongue and throat and that wonderful lingering aftertaste.
Overall an excellent winter beer. Wow!
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 3fourths (6399) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 1, 2003
UPDATED: NOV 3, 2009 Deep red and brown. Quite sweet and thick aroma of wood, hops, scotch and spices. Alcohol in the nose as well. Strong and bright up front, then duller but roasty and woody over the tongue. Finally it’s just a bit dry in the finish leaving a cherry fruit and wood flavor coating.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 raindog (560) - Evansville, Indiana, USA - NOV 29, 2003
Clear amber. Medium, pillowy head. Airy aroma of cascades and spice, with strong malt undertones. Hops are big in aroma and standout. Fizzy mouth. Medium body.Watery texture. Empty up front, with caramel malt following. Lightly metallic lingering in the mouth. Finish is hoppy, with lingering malt. Malts are one sided and not enough hops to balance it out. Luckily though, the spices were measured perfectly. I barely noticed in the taste. Not too bad.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MAP (1133) - Lakewood, Ohio, USA - NOV 14, 2003
Deep crimson hue, and a scarce amount of head. Flavor initally subdued, with a tiny bit of bite to it.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Indra (2361) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - NOV 12, 2003
Spicy, hoppy aroma, some candied apple sweetness. Clear, medium reddish-amber color, with a fading head and barest lacing. Citrusy, fruity, sweet and spicy flavor profile, with a hint of butterscotch and the spices really coming on pretty strongly there towards the end, a bit too much in fact. Peppery, hoppy, acidic finish that also has just a hint of roastiness. Body is medium, palate is seemingly fizzy and dry. Fairly average among other winter spice beers. Does seem a little disjointed.
