3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Another gift from my favorite brother via beer-a-month-club. Not sure I’d agree with the label of it being ’aggressive’ (not enough winter spice nor kick). A tad sweet and malty for a red/brown ale in snowy weather. That said - would definitely order this again.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
"smooth and complex...and pleasantly hoppy, this was my best new find of the 2007 holiday season. missed it this year, but it’s worth searching out. Good stuff! Recent years, 2012 included, a little lacking."

Served on nitro-tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served with a brownish colored body filed with tons of nitro bubbles. The cascade of bubbles slowly lifts from the bottom of the glass revealing a copper colored body. A thick foamy head sits upon the top of the brew, very slowly fading to leave some foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is biggest of a sweeter caramel smell with some roasted malt aromas. Along with these smells are some notes of hop with a slightly earthy and grassy smell.
Taste – The taste begins a roasted malt and toasted cracker flavor mixed with a bit of a caramel sweetness. At the start there are some lighter hop flavors of an earthy nature. The earthy hop grows stronger throughout the taste all while the caramel sweetness seems to fade. Some other hop flavors of grass and pine later come to the tongue at the end, and with a bit of toffee sweetness and a slight increase in the roasted and cracker flavors of the brew, one is left with a slightly drier, moderately hopped, toasted cracker flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel - Being a nitro pour the brew had a nice creamy and thicker feel on the tongue. The thicker and creamier body were fairly nice for the hoppy flavors of the brew, really accentuating them on the tongue, although a bit for prickliness form carbonation may have been slightly better for the malt flavors of the beer adding a bit of excitement to the cracker and roasted flavors.
Overall – An alight brew overall, but nothing super exceptional and one I think would actually have been better on traditional tap, not nitro.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20
Nitro tap sampler at The BeerHive in Pittsburgh and a 12 oz bottle at home from Giant Eagle. Not much difference between the two. Crisp for sure, but could have had more punch on the spices. Smooth going down with a pleasant aftertaste.

Taste: Heavy on the sweetness with just a little caramel flavor
Palate: full bodied oily texture
Overall: Not very drinkable - too sweet with an odd finish
