kennydiaz (182), staten island, New York, USA May 31, 2008 THE OAK AGING IS PRESENT IN THE SMELL AND TASTE. HAS HINTS OF CHOCOLATE. GREAT BEER IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR JUST ONE. Rciesla (3511), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle and draft. Pours a dark stout black with a tan vanilla head. Aroma and flavor is sweet malt, chocolate malt, a very present roasty bitterness runs dieep in this stout. Unimpressive in both forms. bbot (1), USA does not count May 27, 2008 Pours w/ a nice head, very very fine lacing as you drink down. Color is almost pitch black. Flavors are cocoa, coffee, and cinnamon, without excessive bitterness...very well balanced. This beer is not heavy on the palate, despite being an imperial stout. Boulder beer has done a good job of building body w/out making you feel like you’re drinking syrup.
Overall, I’m very pleased with this beer. I would like a little more nose to it, but this is a definitely a beer to try if you like stouts. SlowLoris (8), Boulder, Colorado, USA does not count May 27, 2008 Looks fantastic in the glass, a deep color with creamy off-white head. Smells very nice, hints of chocolate and coffee and oak? I doubt I would smell the oak if I didn’t already know it was there.
Flavor is sweet for a porter, with a lighter aftertaste. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA May 26, 2008 A standard dark brown pour with a decent tan head that provided minimal lacing. The aroma was nice. Roasted coffee, soft chocolate and some smoky, roased malt. Did I detect some woody oak? Maybe. The flavor is the same, the coffee and roasted malts play a more dominant role. Slight chocolate, hardly anything from the hops. Average mouthfeel. A nice beer. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 25, 2008 Dark color. Smell of roasted malt, light coco, malt, coffee and some hints of smoke. Taste of malt, chocolate, hops and roasted coffee. Very harsh finish. Not on my want list ever! jsquire (2087), St. Marys, Ohio, USA May 24, 2008 Dark beer with red highlights. Thin but lasting beige head that left attractive lacing on my snifter. Ducty chocolate and some green hops in the nose. Lots of chocolate flavors, with sweetened coffee, burnt toast, tea, molassess, and grassy hops in the finish. Nice mouthfeel, but not my favorite stout. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA May 24, 2008 On tap at Capones, Black pour with thin beige hand. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and wood. Roasted malt flavor with a well balance of chocolate, coffee and alcohol. Done very well ! Thanks MATT !
