guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA May 22, 2008 on tap poured black with tan head taste of roasted malt ,chocolates and coffe aromas of coffe and smoke not a great beer but very good 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA May 15, 2008 Thanks Todd. The beer pours to a dark cola colored body with a mostly lasting creamy tan head. The aroma is black licorice and dry black patent malt with a light oak. The flavor is coffee and has bitter licorice. Black malt. The palate is very dry and thin. Senormac (14), Springfield, Oregon, USA May 15, 2008 Couldn’t find the aroma on this one. Is it just me? Is not totally black. Can still see, although just barely, through the glass of this dark dark brown brew. Does have quite a bit of carbonation. Tastes very good, dark, roasted, woody, but not creamy. Finishes with same flavor to the end. Cool label art. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA May 15, 2008 Body-nearly opaque with a loose thin ring of bubbles. Nose-light coffee, mildly lactic, light sweet straw, very light metal. Taste-CO2, great dry woody roastiness, good overall lactic creamy light coffee. Well done in an understated kind of way. JFURYCAT (782), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA May 13, 2008 Baking chocolate leaps out under some ashy smoke and a nutty flavor which seems like its been roasted 100 times to induce bittering. Is there salt water here? I don’t mind the texture or the hops. It seems a bit overcarbonated. Seems overrated at the 84th percentile. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA May 13, 2008 Dark brown with a wispy tan head. Good chocolate malt, roasted nut aroma. Medium body. Nice taste is blackened malts with dark chocolates. Has a nice charred malt bitterness which lingers to the finish. Very slight wood essence in the aroma. MrEcted1 (144), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA May 13, 2008 Just not that great. For an imperial stout this one is quite watered down and weak on the palate. Doesn’t look horrible, nice and dark brown. Good amount of java flavors coming through as well as roasted malt. A little bit woody as well. Sounds okay on paper but actually it’s quite ho-hum. Sharp unpleasant bitterness in there for a stout. topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA May 8, 2008 22 oz bomber pours very dark brown but not opaque. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is of oak, and roastedmalt. Very creamy mouthfeel.
