Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 27, 2008 On draught at Smokin’ Joes. Light carbonic gassy aroma with mild chocolate malted milkshake and coffee. Dark, dark oily black, with thin cocoa-creme, lightly laced head. Medium watery body, lightly chewy, with medium carbonation. Fairly creamy. Starts with lots of chocolate and coffee. Malted milkshake, tons of lactic creaminess. Dry roasted bitterness at the finish but overall, fairly sweet. Light carbonic tang and alcohol. Enjoyable stout. ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Apr 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small beige colored head. Aroma is roast, chocolate. Flavor is roast, chocolate, coffee. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finished bitter. Not very good, thin and watery, light on the flavor. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Apr 24, 2008 Pours deep brownish black with a tall, semi creamy froth. Good head retention reducing slowly to reveal a fluffy canopy and some sticky lacing. Aromas of roasted chocolate. Medium full nectar with good carbonation creating a soft texture. Out of the bull pen this one is moderately roasted with defined bitter sweet cocoa. It doesn’t seem to overload me with anything really. A great balance between all components. Theres a bit of a roasted nut shell essence, some coffee bean, and leather. The play between the hops and the carbonation create this snappy, lively sensation on the palate. The finish is bittered swiftly and sticks. No apparent oak flavors. Overall: this is a very tasty stout with a great mouthfeel, almost chalky and not sweet at all. A nice balanced brew. Solid! marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Apr 23, 2008 This dark brown ale poured with a foamy tan head that dissipated rather quickly. There is a pleasant chocolate aroma and a carbonated roasted malt flavor with cocoa undertones. This is a tasty stout, although the flavor is slightly thin. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 20, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Roasted bitterness and chocolate sweetness merge into coffee bean notes in this slender and drinkable Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the brown-sleeved black.
-The barrel presence is subtle, which is appreciated.
-The finishing bitterness is quite roasty, but also hoppy and peppery.
-I did not find it plump enough for my tastes in the style.
Bottle. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Apr 13, 2008 Pretty sessionable for its ABV. It has a handsome pour, a deep, clear reddish mahogany with a tall, rocky beige head, leaving chunks of "lace" in its wake. The aroma has roasted malt, cocoa, nuts, and oak to it. A bit thin, mayhaps, but that’s pretty much what the flavor delivers as well. Not bad.

clingman71 (239), Centerville, Ohio, USA Apr 12, 2008 Bottle. This beer pours a beautiful deep reddish brown with a huge tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor begins creamy, but a sharp raostiness is lingering behind the initial wave of flavor. There is a sense of chocolate and coffee, but most stouts seem to fall in line with that. While the overall sensation is a little thin, it is a very solid beer. However, considering that it was part of a special series, I wish they would have bumped it up to 9 or 10% and made it an Oak-aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout. jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Apr 12, 2008 Pours dark brown with off white head. Big roasted malt aroma with hint of chocolate and coffee. Taste is mostly coffee. Thin mouthfeel. Just OK.
