drpimento (796), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Mar 31, 2008 Yaaaammmmyyyyy... Luscious beer. They can keep the name though. Pours with a very creamy tan head and plenty o lace. Creamy svelte body, just a bit of tang at the end. Bitter chocolate and coffee beans, can almost feel the crunch. Short finish. Good stuff Maynard. Having a bottle of this at Bodega Brew Pub downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin. Arayaga2 (934), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 31, 2008 Brown black with a reasonably sized tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is a bit chocolatey with some brown sugar. Taste is same with a bit of bitter roast. Relatively light in body, it has a bit of tannic astringency. $5.75/22oz bhensonb (4189), Woodland, California, USA Mar 29, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of dark toasted malt, could be some coffee, chocolate and oak. It’s a strong aroma. Near opaque brown/black color with a decent tan head. Near full bodied with creamy carbonation. It has an oak bite to go with dark toasted malt, and a touch of coffee. Finishes dry, slightly astringent and a little woody and bitter. Leaves the mouth a bit stunned. It’s pretty good. Maverick34 (690), New York, USA Mar 29, 2008 Draft at the spring lounge. Poured dark with a brownish colored head. An OK oatmeal stout but on the chocolatey side. Not awesme not terrible. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Mar 27, 2008 Pours very dark with a crimson hue and a tannish head. The aroma has some oak, lots of cream, milk chocolate, coffee bitterness and a good amount of roast. Medium / full body with some prickly carbonation. The flavor starts fairly thin with a good amount of charry roasted malt, some spice and chocolate. The finish is sharp and crisp. Not really the most traditional stout, but quite decent. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 25, 2008 22 oz bottle, via trade, I think with SoLan & TheCheeseMan. Pours a dark brown, almost black body under a nice fluffy foamy light brown head that had long retention due to the fairly active carbonation. The nose is very roasty, bordering on being burnt and acrid, with a lot of husky and nutty grain notes. Some light roast coffee and chocolate malt. The flavor is just a bit too over roasted and astringent to really get too into this one. It reminds me of day old coffee that’s been re-heated more than once. I would never have guessed that this was an oak-aged beer either, must have been oak chips and not aged for very long. Finishes with moderate bitterness, strong coffee, and some green leafy hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a creamy texture and moderate fizzy prickly carbonation. It was a little hard to put down the entire bottle. JFGrind (1346), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 25, 2008 Roasted, coffee, chocolate, some oak, and oatmeal are all evident in this stout. I paid about eight bucks for a bomber and was dissapointed in the product. I din’t understand the name, Obovoid, either. Indra (2023), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Mar 23, 2008 22oz. bottle. Roasty, semi-sweet chocolate aroma with light touches of oak and earthy hop, that as it warms, gains the suggestion of a short stack of dinerhouse-style chocolate chip pancackes, covered in butter and maple syrup and with a steaming cup of creamy, sugary coffee sitting nearby. Ebony in color with a tan head that diminishes and light wisps of lace. Flavor contains a solid amount of dark chocolate sweetness and roasty espresso notes, some faint oak and vanilla in the background throughout, and finishing with a drying, lightly smoky, earthy, almost peaty character, and touches of prune and light bitterness. Creamy, smooth and gently warming on the palate, body is medium-full. Interesting and surprisingly drinkable.
