gearbike (413), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA Feb 18, 2008 Just short of dark with no head. Big coffee and raisin scent. Lots of coffe and choclate taste. something is just lacking that makes this beer hard to drink. It is rather thin. Has the basic stout flavors but no real punch. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA Feb 17, 2008 Enjoyed on draft at Cambridge Common.
Beautiful dark (not quite black) pour - almost looked to have texture to it, if that makes any sense. Thick tan head. Looked delicious. Aroma strong with coffee and chocolate notes, but balanced - this wasn’t an "in your face" type of aroma. Taste was delicious coffee notes and only mild bitterness. I thought this one stood up well to some of the other rich stouts that I’ve had, many of which are ranked higher than this fine brew. Nice job, guys. LearninBeer (194), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Feb 17, 2008 Pours almost black in color with large light brown head. The head is mostly lasting with excellent lacing. The aroma is malty with chocolate hints, roasted coffee with a hint of grain. The initial flavor is bitter, roasty a little coffee a little cocoa. The body is medium, the texture creamy/watery with soft carbonation. BeerVirgin72 (778), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Feb 16, 2008 Had on draft at Brews. Pour was dark brown with nice creamy tan head. Aroma was all coffee. Taste was pretty much dry roasted coffee. I did not taste the barrell aged, or any hint of sweetness in this one. Easy drinker, but the flavors did not jump out as I had hoped. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Feb 15, 2008 Pour is a dark black with a large tan head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee with a hint of the oak, I think that is what they were going for in this beer. Flavor is a super rich coffee, almost like an espresso. Finish has a bit of the oak. Not oaked out the wazoo like some beers but a decent stout with just the right amount of the oak-aging going on. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA Feb 14, 2008 Black with a thick, creamy brown head.
Light aroma of roasty malts and chocolate.
Rich, creamy flavor of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee with a flavor of tobacco on the finish.
MrYuk (21), Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 14, 2008 Just a kiss of oak adds to the roasty sweet medium body. Smooth, but bitter enough to wake up your taste buds. Nicely done stout. T2Tool (352), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Feb 13, 2008 Poured a dark ruby color from a 22-oz bottle with a big beige head. Aroma of dried fruit along with chocolate and a hit on oak. The taste was of roasted malt, chocolate with some woody and vanilla flavors coming through. Was very smooth.
