Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Feb 2, 2008 Courtesy of gillard. Pours deep dark with dark brown edges. It has a nice mocha looking head and some sheet lacing. The aroma is a nice mix of burnt malts and oak. I also get roasted malts, mild oatmeal twang and a hint of coffee. The taste begins feeling a bit thin. I seem to get a neutral taste to start followed by roasted malts and bold burnt malts. Into the finish a brief oak note surfaces before mild malt astringency shows up to add some balance to the richer maltier notes. The oatmeal twang is very light and just noticeable. A lingering burnt malt note heads deep into the after taste. bobaidan (358), Farmington, Connecticut, USA Feb 1, 2008 Pours opaque black with a nice looking head. Aroma is lovely with roasted malts and oak in the foreground. Mouth feel is thinner than I expected, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Flavor is quite good with a lot of roasted almost burnt overtones. Hop bitterness is kept to a minimum in this beer, but there is just enough to balance. Sadly the oak does not come through as strongly as I’d like, but this is a very enjoyable beer. MikeF (528), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Feb 1, 2008 dark with a moderate light brown head. mild woody aroma, mostly roasted malt. Really, for a "big" stout it falls short. not enough rich malt flavor. Thin. nothing all that unique in the flavor. finishes bitter, slightly oaky. Gillard (42), Florida, USA Jan 31, 2008 Bottle: Pours a a dark black with subtle red hues that cascade into a light brown head. Smells of oak ,pete, firewood.Taste of burnt steak, roasted malts. Palate is thin and resiny. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jan 31, 2008 22-oz bottle. Pours black with an average, dark brown head, somewhat diminishing with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (chocolate, toast), light hops (grass), average yeast (leather) with notes of smoke and wood. Medium bodied, sticky texture, borders on creamy finish, lively carbonation, and a bitter and chalky finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness. A very easy beer to drink although I expected a little more dark malt aroma out of this one. Still needs some work. joekfsu (138), Boardman, Ohio, USA Jan 30, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours nearly opaque black with a 2+ cm rolling head that is tan and bubbly. Aroma is of smoke, roasted malts and bitter chocolate (chocolate dominates when it warms up a bit). Flavors are the same. Aftertaste is dominated by the smoke and bitter chocolate, with both flavors lingering for a while. Nearly no lacing, very light carbonation, medium body, hidden alcohol. Drinkable more for the smokiness than anything else, low etoh for the style. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Jan 30, 2008 22oz bottle shared by jasonp. Dark brown with red light at the bottom and sides of the glass. Hugely roast-heavy nose, with an astringent, roast-filled, charred wood and dusty, dry malt flavor. Even has some charred milk and dry, coarse butter and wood flavors, and it finishing not much different. A difficult beer to like. mreusch (715), Olathe, Kansas, USA Jan 30, 2008 Bomber, courtesy of my loving wife who bought this for me after a very long, painful weekend of work - thank you and love you too, Boo! Pours a cola brown with a towering creamy off-white head, great lacing. Aroma is dominated by roasted malts, chocolate, and some hints of woody oak. Flavor is a bit thin on the outset, but seems to fill in some on the middle and finish, with more roasty malts, coffee, chocolate and some slight woodiness. Agree with earlier comments likening this more to a porter than a stout, but pleasant and enjoyable whatever you call it...
