Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Jan 28, 2009 Bomber shared with barrios, jbo, and MmmcKay. Pours dark brown with chestnut highlights and ring of tan head. Aroma of rum soaked fruit and an earthy cherry note. Flavor of bitter roast chocolate and dirt. Medium thin body with medium low carbonation and a chalky finish. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Jan 20, 2009 Guest tap at Flossmoor. Pours black with a frothy beige head. Light carbonation. Aroma is very weak, surprisingly. Weak aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and oatmeal. Taste is of roasted malt, chocolate, dairy creamer, and oatmeal. Lingering taste of coffee and alcohol. Mouthfeel is creamy, bordering on watery. All the flavors are extremely muted, making for a very weak beer. overall watson1977 (250), , Pennsylvania, USA Jan 18, 2009 deep black pour with a medium tan head that doesnt retain well and minimal lacing. has a significant roasted malt aroma ad smells subtley of chocolate milk. it has more flavor than the aroma suggests with a nice hoppiness that balances chocolate and mild anise flavors. mouthfeel is creamy with a chocolately but slightly chalky finish. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 16, 2009 Bottle on 12/28/2008 from River City Cellars. Dark black body with a medium creamy light brown head. Sweet chocolate, roast, light coffee, oak, and a bit of floral hops. Roasty, chocolate and floral hop flavor, some coffee hints with a bit of oak, fairly bitter. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation.
MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Jan 12, 2009 Sampled with Barrios and Butters. Very dark in color. DARK brown almost black body. On nose picked up roasted walnuts aromas with bits of cola. Not as think on the palate as I would have expected for a stout. Bitter cacoa and coffee. Not bad. Wouldn’t buy on my own though. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jan 12, 2009 Bottle with Butters for my 100th. Pours a tan head and dark brown body. Smells of chocolate and sweet roasted malt. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. Medium body with a slight bitter finish. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jan 11, 2009 As you’d expect, this is black, but with a thin head. The aroma is thin, smoky, moldy even. Very thin body for what I expected ... very thin ... light smoke, ash, bitter chocolate. Not much to it for a supposedly ’big’ stout. (#3483, 11/2008) LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Jan 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, and alcohol. Flavor of bitter chocolate initially and then lots of crystal malt (apparently I’m quite sensitive to crystal malt). Ok beer but a little boring.
