fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Jan 8, 2009 Bottle, I guess about a year old since the new batch just came out, and this was not the new batch. Did not know and never would have guessed this was oak aged. Aroma quite chocolaty (semi-dark) with bitter coffee, roasted malt. Flavor again chocolate forward. Coffee finish. Full-bodied, strong malt and chocolate. Very good, especially for a beer that’s a year old. sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 24, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown/black, small tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma is subdued chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Flavor is more of the same, though the chocoalte and roasted malt dominate the profile. Never really picked up the oak notes anywhere along the way, but it did seem as though the oak may have mellowed out the bitterness in the finish. bretupdegraff (172), Fishers, Indiana, USA Dec 20, 2008 first aroma was nice and typical coffee dark fruit of an imperial stout - after the massive head settled the aroma was a bit stale. taste is oaky dark fruit and coffee and bitter chocolate roasted malt. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Dec 20, 2008 Black, brown at edges, nice tan head fades into a ring. Chocolate, faint espresso, and slight fruit aroma. Chocolate and faint black currants, coffee on finish. Very nice, drinkable stout. Naven (864), Poway, California, USA Dec 19, 2008 22 Oz bottle from Jimbo. Super nice nose of chocolate and espresso. Color is........wait for it...........black. Flavor is creamy, rich, but not overdone or burnt like so many other stouts these days. Oak is very very light, but still adds to the flavor. I really liked this one. radagast83 (1273), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Dec 15, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a dark black color. Aroma is chocolate, coffee. Flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and notes of hops. Pretty creamy, smooth beer without much of an alcohol hint to it. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Dec 13, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown, almost black with a small beige head. Heavy mocha, roastiness and earthy hop character in the aroma. Very bitter, hoppy and piney at first then notes of wood, chocolate, coffee roastiness. The stout qualities got overshadowed by the hops in this one, and not exactly in a good way. The body is between medium and light - a bitt light for a stout. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 11, 2008 I do not even discuss pours with impy stouts since they are all pitch black. This one is no different. Take this one at room temperature or thereabouts. Coffee roasted malt flavor. Pretty sweet with a decent hit of chocolate. Nothing out of the ordinary but a decent drink nonetheless.
