The oatmeal stands out, rounding out the hoppy coffee and chocolate. Left a nice chocolate aftertaste for me to savor. wavers1 (181), novato, California, USA

The flavor is of course of those big roast malts along with chocolate and a hint of oak. It’s well hopped and has a medium body. I really enjoyed this one. arrogantb (734), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 30, 2009 22 oz. bomber for $7.50 at Total Beverage. The color is black but not completely black with a thin-as-paper white head. The first smells are oatmeal, oaky, stouty goodness. Whoa, the taste is crazy..subtle woody vanilla flavors but I am disappointed by the thin mouthfeel. Interesting beer, good for a one-time purchase but its a little expensive, if it was a little thicker it would be perfect.

Pours a rich deep brown/black with a generous foamy head. Smells delicious, like roasted coffee, chocolate malts, and some scalded milk. Great mouthfeel, rich flavor of burnt coffee, dark chocolate, maybe some vanilla. A little sweet, but very tasty. LooseCannon (938), Norfolk, Virginia, USA

TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark brown that was black in the glass with red highlights in the light and an average, light tan head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma was nice but fairly weak in comparison to the flavor. It was light to moderate roasted, burnt and mild coffee malts and lighter caramel malt; moderate hops; and oak, lactose and very light alcohol. The flavor was chocolate, oak, oatmeal, a little coffee and caramel, some hops, cream and burnt and roasted malts. The finish had a long duration. The medium to full body was oily with fizzy carbonation and a light astringent finish. JaffaHawk23 (39), Broomfield(via Iowa City), Colorado, USA

Not as thick as Iike my stouts but this was certainly a tasty creation. Very good mouthfeel, midnight black color and a offwhite almost brown head. Great beer at a great brewery.
