MrEcted1 (138), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA May 13, 2008 Just not that great. For an imperial stout this one is quite watered down and weak on the palate. Doesn’t look horrible, nice and dark brown. Good amount of java flavors coming through as well as roasted malt. A little bit woody as well. Sounds okay on paper but actually it’s quite ho-hum. Sharp unpleasant bitterness in there for a stout.
jimhilt (1410), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Sep 6, 2008 Pours a four finger beige head that fades slowly to a thin layer, leaving some lace. Deepest mahogany color. Good carbonation and heavy bodied. Burnt coffee nose. Flavor has hints of malty sweetness but burnt coffee dominates. $6.49 for a 22oz bottle from Manchester Wine and Liquors Manchester, CT. daknole (697), Plantation, Florida, USA Sep 5, 2008 Bottle from Crown Liquors. Almost a black pour with a small brown head. Aroma is nice enough. Roasted malts, chocolate, espresso, etc. Flavor is hoppier and toastier than I prefer my stouts. dont get me wrong, it is a pretty well done beer...just not my favorite type of stout. Finish is dry and a tad bitter. ucusty (1062), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 26, 2008 Bottle from 2007. Dark brown pour with fluffy brown head and thin spotty lace. Roast aroma, almost smoky.
