Commercial Description:
Oak-aged oatmeal stout as dark in color as deep space. Again Obovoid on oak adds earthy character to the roasted notes and bittersweet chocolate finish derived from the black and chocolate malts.

Tasting at Holiday Beerfest in Omaha: Pitch black pour; nice off white head. Malty aroma with roasted nuts in here too. Sweet oatmeal flavor with malty chocolate in the background. Bitter finish...not much note of the oak however. Overall a good drink!

22 oz bomber. Nice deep dark brown, light head with traces that linger a while. Not an overpowering stout, and almost a little light tasting, but after a few sips the roasted taste is very evident. Not bad at all, but not something I would keep on my gotta have more of list.

22 oz. brown bomber. Poured out a deep chocolate brown, with a whisper of a mocha colored head. Aromas are roasted malts, burnt raisins, brown sugar. Not much in the way of hops. Flavors are of roasted malts, some caramel, coffee beans. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium mouthfeel, decent body. Tasty beer overall.

Obovoid: An ovoid with the broad and toward the apex.
Empirical: Relying on experience or observation alone often without due regard to for system and theory.

12/12/2007: Boulder Beer Obovoid Empirical Stout (ale aged with oak) is near black in color with a foamy, lasting brown head. Dark fruits, semi-sweet chocolate, and some dry alcohol can be found in the aroma. The flavor is dry (first sip seems to tend toward ashy) with toasted and roasted malt, green? coffee beans (in the middle), and hints of chocolate and wood. The alcohol doesn’t poke out too much. However, the flavor does seem a bit watered down or more thin than expected. The body is medium-full and is smooth and mellow.

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #254 for this beer...
Bomber shared by footbalm. Pours a nice brown color with a small white head. The aroma is very nice; loads of roasted coffee, some woody notes also. The taste is very mellow; woody and smooth, roasted malts, coffee, some light oatmeal also. A easygoing, but full flavored brew. Quite nice.

Bottle. Jet black pour with a tall foamy tan head. Nose immediately smells of blood and iron with roasted malts, and burnt oatmeal coming through secondly. Dark chocolate and some woody notes come through as well. Taste is dark chocolate, dark roasted malts, burnt oatmeal and light coffee. Some hop bitterness comes through as does more wood. The body on this is rather creamy and smooth but still near full bodied. The carbonation may be creamy but still releases lots of energy, i.e. it caused me to belch a lot. The finish is stronger dark chocolate, rather bittersweet, with more roasted malt, light coffee, wood, and burnt cookies. Good but not great, though I’d still recommend this.
