From a 22oz. bottle purchased at Johns Marketplace in Portland, OR--Poured a deep dark black body with a big fluffy grey-brown head. Chocolaty aroma iwth big gritty maltiness. Great subtle oak chip flavor with some creamy, milky oat presence in there. Not too bold or thick, but very enjoyable and rich.

22 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a frothy light brown head that quickly dissipates to a thin film that laces the glass.

The aroma is chocolate malts, oatmeal, roasted coffee and a touch of wood with some initial vegetal and metallic off notes.

The flavor is sweet lactic chocolate with some acidic roasted malts. It finishes with charred roasted bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly watery.

Overall, a decent stout. Its simplicity and some off notes prevent it from being better.

A pretty nice stout, I think fair to call it a dry stout on the strongish side. Characterized by strongly roasted malt aromas and flavors, with a background of coffee and bitter chocolate. Medium-full mouthfeel, easy dry finish. Good partner to grilled shrimp as it turned out.

RSRIZZO (1847) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JAN 1, 2008
Aroma is a deep rich sweet roasted scent. Color is black with good carbonation and a thick tight tan head. Taste is sweet and roasted. Starting with a full body that goes down sweet with a slight crisp feel then a bold roasted flavor and faint bitterness. After taste has a very faint oak taste that fades into mild bitterness and very light alcohol like feel. Its a nice Oatmeal Stout but not a stand out like the other brews in the Looking Glass series.

dark thick black pour, some white head, choc and dark malts on the nose, flavor is coffee on the start and choc. odd mouth feel, not bad but odd, very easy drinking, i as others didn’t really get much of the oak.

Really nice aroma of roasted barley and slightly smoky dark chocolate. Mildly thin black in color with lots of garnet accents, although the huge head makes up for it. The oak makes its presence known on the flavor. Fairly oakey and earthy, it tops off the chocolate and roasted malts (if you are into that sort of thing). Some ashtray at the swallow. Rather thin and wispy. Kind of a letdown.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2008 Man, what an aroma. Straight up chocolate. Almost a great stout except for a bit of a thin a mouth feel. Balanced, tasty, delightful.

1 pint 6 oz bottle pours pretty black with a monsterous and clingy head and pull away lace. The aroma is roasty, chocolaty, and inviting. The flavor is roasty, malty, sweet, and ever so slightly lactic. There is a lingering slight bitterness. There is no trace of alcohol flavor; very mild this one for the ABV listed. The palate is fairly rich, but not overly so. Decent cabonation exists. Overall, very nice - can’t complain.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and GregClow, Harry’s bottle. Nice dry oatmeal aroma, with some dry chocolate as well. Great taste - dry, sweet chocolate, medium carbonated body. Black with lots of brown hints, big fizzy brown head. This one packs a tremendous amount of flavour with no trace of alcohol. A great stout.

On tap at the Bocktown. Pleasantly attractive roasty dark beer aroma. Blackish bwrown with red tinge that is readily apparent. Barelt any head. Not much carbonation. Not as strong as an impy stout but it certainly has those impy stout characters. Decently mild but the alky impact still exists. Overall not a bad stout but is certainly too much for my sweet stout taste buds.
