4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and GregClow, Harry’s bottle. Nice dry oatmeal aroma, with some dry chocolate as well. Great taste - dry, sweet chocolate, medium carbonated body. Black with lots of brown hints, big fizzy brown head. This one packs a tremendous amount of flavour with no trace of alcohol. A great stout.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
On tap at the Bocktown. Pleasantly attractive roasty dark beer aroma. Blackish bwrown with red tinge that is readily apparent. Barelt any head. Not much carbonation. Not as strong as an impy stout but it certainly has those impy stout characters. Decently mild but the alky impact still exists. Overall not a bad stout but is certainly too much for my sweet stout taste buds.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bomber served in a shaker pint. Pours an opaque black with a thick off white head. Slight chocolate malt aroma with a hint of oak.
Nice creamy mouthfeel. Not a lot of roasted barley more to the chocolate malt side. Fairly sweet up front. Long dry finish with some more chocolate.
Decent beer, but the oak character didn’t really seem very evident.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Notes from 11/24/07. 22oz bottle, no date. Hazy deep, deep ruby brown with a one finger beige head, fair retention. Roasted malts are the strongest in the aroma, followed by some coffee (acidity and all), light oats and dark chocolate. I can’t pick up on any oak at this time. Flavor was wet wood--hooray the oak is now present, though not dominant. Roasted malts with not much sweetness and a dry coffee ashy finish. Bitterness peaks at a 3. Medium creamy body with moderate carbonation. Pretty good.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma is malt, roasted coffee, and dark chocolate. Taste of bitterness, molasses, coffee, roasted chocolate, and oak. A slight warming finish. A pretty good beer that maybe could use some cellaring for just a little bit.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, coffee, husks, cocoa powder), lightly hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with a light note of wood. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/creamy texture, lively carbonation. Clumsy, rough malt character and a fairly acidic flavor profile make this one a miss for me. It’s ok, an average-ish stout in the end, but quite simple and uninspiring. Likely oak chipped rather than barrel aged, but even so it didn’t have much effect. Which is certainly better than overdoing it, which I have come to expect from chips, but I had to struggle to find their effects here...sadly, it’s just a plain raw wood odor (sawdusty), not very vanilla-ish or inviting. I’d really like to be able to root for this "home team", but BBC always brew in a very by-the-numbers and safe (dare I say boring?) manner rather than innovative and challenging. Maybe that’s by design, marketing not to beer geeks but ordinary beer drinkers, I dunno. And yet they’re pricing this at $7.50 per bomber right here in its home town, which is more than the common man is likely willing to spend and almost seems like hubris. Confusing beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 ounce bottle in pint glass. Black with lasting tan head and lace. Roasted coffee chocolate chip cookie dough aroma. Dark chocolate, roasted mocha, mild fruit and medium bitterness flavors, dominated by delicious roastiness. Medium-full bodied and medium carbo. Nicely complex, challenging and drinkable at the same time. Excellent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A very nice dry stout, not as bitter as you would expect. The taste is dark and toasty malts, medium hop bitterness. Coffee like. I’ve enjoyed it.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The aroma is very nice with chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. The appearance is dark brown with a light tan head. The flavor is like the aroma. This stout is decent but to dry.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy & tupalev - HogTownHarry’s bottle. Deep brown with a moderate off-white head. Deep roasty aroma, with nice dry malt and toffee notes. Medium body. Flavour had some nice burnt malt off the top, followed by cocoa powder, molasses, and a nice bitter finish. Very nice!
