Thanks to Axilla. Pours a deep woody brown (almost black) with a big rocky head, fades slightly and has some lace. Aroma is woody, oaked, chocolate malts, lots of licorice, spicy anise and some clove and cinnamon as it warms. Flavor has some light toffee andchocolate but is almsot overtaken by spicy phenols and vinyl, rubbery and peppery with a fake sweetness. Hardly any roast and not really all that stout-like. Meh.

In the bottle at the 2007 Crescent Moon Holiday Beer Tasting. Pours black with a big thick creamy head. Big roasted aroma. Super coffeed. Slightly milky, slightly milk sourness. Nice roasted coffee flavor. Creamy, but has a bit of fizz to the palate. Great almonds at the finish. Huge lacing. This beer would be over the top if were thicker.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The body is an opaque pitch black with a medium sized, tan colored head. The foam displays decent retention, leaving sheet like lacing on the glass as it passes. The aroma is rich and roasty, with alot of chocolate of various varieties coming through. Coffee is present, though it plays more of a submissive role to the chocolate. Smooth oatmeal grains and vanilla add interesting notes t the nose. The flavor is very similar. Mostly chocolaty, but oak and vanilla enter and play significant roles. Oatmeal smoothness is quite apparent. The body was significantly thinner than I expected, lending easy drinkability but detracting from the overall experience. Solid brew, but not a home-run like I was hoping for.

Pours out black with a moderate to small tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with slight sweetness and earth. Taste is up front chocolate, with some oatmealish sweetness, a very slight oak/vanilla flavor. A good stout and I’d drink it again, found myself looking for more of a pronounced oak flavor.

I wasn’t so in to this. Mild coffee aroma on the black beer. Well carbonated. Some dry oak flavor combined with the taste of an oatmeal stout. There is also some chocolate and unprocessed grain.

Dark brown color with a medium head. Very roasty and grainy aroma. The first taste that jumps at me is similar to bourbon. Not bourbon exactly, but that ’corn mash’ flavor. Oaky. Plenty of raw grain and a little chocolate. Not bad.

22 oz bottle. Very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, light roast, and some molasses. Taste is chocolate and light roast- with light molasses notes, oatmeal, and oak. I would like have liked the roast to be a bit more assertive, with a bit of a fuller body considering this is 7.5 % Overall not bad though.

sweet honey tones coupled with burnt grain. jet black and a thin weak faint espresso head. clover honey sweetness with silky dark roast is like putting honey on black bread. tasty rich stout finishes with the flaked oatmeal in moderation.

Bottle. Astringent aroma of bitter chocolate and coffee. Some liquorice and bitter molasses as well. Pours dark brown... almost black with a big, creamy, seemingly sticky khaki head leaving average lacing. Flavor is dry and bitter. Dry, very dry chocolate and espresso grounds. Some vanilla from the wood tannin. Really just a fairly lean bodied and bitter stout. Doesn’t do a whole lot for me.
