23-Jun-09 (22-oz bottle: Purchased 18-Jun-09 for $5.99 at OíBryanís Wine and State Liquor Agency in Loveland, OH)
This beer pours dark brown with good clarity at the edges, while the light-tan head rises to only a quarter inch before settling quickly to a thin sheet and large-bubbled, wide ring. Wood and earth dominate the nose, with slightly sweet, roasted malts in the background. Not especially complex, but very aromatic and enticing. On the palate, oatmeal, slightly sweet roast, and chocolate are all prominent, along with notes of coffee and molasses. The beer also tastes woodsy and earthy, and these flavors are nicely balanced against the strong maltiness. The bitterness is only light to medium and itís quite smooth, though there is some ashiness in the finish. Itís full bodied, chewy, slightly sticky, and smooth, with gentle carbonation. Spotty lace remains on the glass. Overall, a really nice oatmeal stout, flavorful, complex, well crafted, a beer Iíve enjoyed drinking and would purchase again.

22 oz bomber into an English pint. The pour is a nice dark, dark brown, almost black, with a big pillowy off white head. There is a great lace on this thing and it just clings to the glass beautifully. The aroma is decent. There is a good malt presence, with some cocoa and coffee notes barely present. The oak adds a nice earthy tone, but beyond that, there isn't a lot going on. The flavor is very similar. There is a stronger dark fruit presence on the back end of the flavor that is nicely balanced. The mouth feel is really thin for a stout. The carbonation helps make it seem a little thicker, but it's a big concern. The aftertaste is a little dry, lingering, and decent ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap. Pour is close to black with a small tan head. Aroma and flavor of roasted grain, caramel malt, ash, and coffee. Flavor is a bit more bitter, but similar to the nose. Earthy finish.

Sample at Rattle N Hum. Darkest brown color with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, oak and malt. Medium body with flavors of milk chocolate, oak and earthy malt. The finish is sweet with an oak and chocolate aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bomber cellared for approximately 10 months. Rich chocolate aroma with notes of caramel and vanilla as well as some oak. Pours black with a nice light brown head and good lacing. Rich and creamy texture with good chocolate flavor as well as vanilla and oak notes. Finishes very smooth with a bittersweet finish. Delicious. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled in Jan 2010, opened in Jan 2014. Aroma is great - strong vanilla and caramel notes. The oak is here too. Flavor - falls a bit short. Starts creamy but ends up with a stunted/abrupt finish. Wood barreling is apparent but maybe too much. It could be that I opened the bottle too far past itís prime. Would love to have tried this fresh.

Pours a jet black color. Tan head dissipates quickly. Not much, aroma wise. Taste is OK but nothing is jumping out at me. Oatmeal isnít providing a mouthfeel and the barrel isnít providing much either.

Excessively large head which caused the beer to take quite a while to pour. The flavor is a a mellow roasted malt with a bread-like texture. Easy drinking for a stout.

22oz shared by beerpig317. Very dark brown color. Thin off white head. Good dots of lace. Bigger body. Smooth soft lighter carbonation. More dry texture. Nice milk, Chocolate, creaminess.. Light oak. Moderate bitter taste, minimal sweet. Good oat character. As a whole an OK oak aged stout, little rough right now, not very well rounded. Light metallic

aroma: chocolate, oak. bit of oatmeal. appearance: dark brown. creamy khaki head. taste: sweet chocolate balanced by slightly bitter but smooth coffee. neither flavor is very robust or punctuated, though. this drinks like a botched batch of old rasputin. palate: thin to creamy mouth feel.
