3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nitro draft at Hopcat. Black with typical nitro head. Aroma of roasted malt, bitter cocoa, slight oak. Flavor follows suit and offers a slight smokey, burnt aspect to the billing. Basic and simple, yes. Enjoyable, absolutely.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2016 Cognac version of the oak aged stout. Cognac overwhelms the aroma and initial taste. Rest of the beer tastes come out after it warms up a bit. Some cocoa and oatmeal. Very sour. Still a little watery. Slightly disappointing. Tap.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
pours near black with brown around the edges. nice chocolate, roasted grain, and coffee aroma. evident, but not overdone. palate is smooth, dry, medium bodied...somewhere between a traditional oatmeal & imperial stout. heavy roasted flavors, rasisins, milk chocolate/cocoa, coffee, and some wood, before a bittersweet hoppy chocolate finish. good stuff."

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Transfer from BA review on 5-7-13-
Served on tap in a snifter
Appearance – Pours a nearly pitch black color with a one finger light tan head. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a ton of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The nose is pretty sweet smelling with lots of sweet oatmeal and caramel. Mixed with these are aromas of dark roasted malt and a moderate amount of a coffee smell. Small amounts of vanilla work their way to the nose which when mixed with the rest creates an sweet oaty and roasty smell overall.
Taste –The taste begins with a dark roasted malt, a chocolate, and very oaty flavor mixed with a bit of caramel and vanilla sweetness upfront. As the flavor moves forward a chocolate flavor gets stronger and some notes of an oaky nature come to the tongue while the sweeter flavors of caramel begin losing ground. A coffee flavor develops more toward the middle of the taste growing rather strong more toward the end. With the sweeter flavors fading and the coffee having a more burnt characteristic, a moderately bitter and roasted flavor is left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel-The body of the brew is on the medium to slightly lower side for a imperial of 8 % with a carbonation that is a little high for the style. Not the most complimenting for the flavors of the beer as it downplayed the nice roasty and oaty flavor of the brew.
Overall – A pretty decent brew but not the greatest imperial out there. It begins very nice with lots of oaty and roasted flavors, but then gets a little too bitter more toward the end with the feel never really quite fitting the style. Worth a try, but not the best.

Rated from notes taken on 23 Jun 2011 -- A very drinkable stout, although I couldn’t really taste much, if any oak. Overall good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bomber into an English pint. The pour is a nice dark, dark brown, almost black, with a big pillowy off white head. There is a great lace on this thing and it just clings to the glass beautifully. The aroma is decent. There is a good malt presence, with some cocoa and coffee notes barely present. The oak adds a nice earthy tone, but beyond that, there isn't a lot going on. The flavor is very similar. There is a stronger dark fruit presence on the back end of the flavor that is nicely balanced. The mouth feel is really thin for a stout. The carbonation helps make it seem a little thicker, but it's a big concern. The aftertaste is a little dry, lingering, and decent

Sample at Rattle N Hum. Darkest brown color with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, oak and malt. Medium body with flavors of milk chocolate, oak and earthy malt. The finish is sweet with an oak and chocolate aftertaste. Above average overall.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber cellared for approximately 10 months. Rich chocolate aroma with notes of caramel and vanilla as well as some oak. Pours black with a nice light brown head and good lacing. Rich and creamy texture with good chocolate flavor as well as vanilla and oak notes. Finishes very smooth with a bittersweet finish. Delicious.
