Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

Pours opaque brown. Minimal nose. Taste is slight chocolate with mild aftertaste. All right.

Bottle. Dark brown, tan head. Smells of chocolate, smoke. Tastes of apples and burnt, not in a good way. Once you take a sip the only flavor that lingers in your mouth is the burnt one. It’s really not very enjoyable. Not well balanced, not good.

Great beer. Had off a nitrous tap which made it very creamy. The taste was great.

Very dark brown to black color, tan to light brown head. Roasted, grainy, sweet, fruity taste. Spritzy mouthfeel, medium low bitterness. Sweet, roasted scent.

Tried this on tap at Ernie's bar & pizza in Denver, CO. Great medal winning porter with malty coffee flavors, hints of roasted nuts and chocolate. Good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Denver Center City Marriott. Dark pour, usual porter stuff. Slight lactic notes among a roasted malt profile and a slight fruity sweetness that was also not really appealing. Okay. Meh.

12oz bottle -pours really dark ruby with a finger of tan head that quickly vanishes and thin lacing. Noise is roasted chocolate and coffee. Flavor adds water. Thin body, geez. Bitter due to roastedness. A light porter. That’s it.

Dark brown, amber hues, no head. Interesting aroma. Sort of a burnt woody scent. Some chocolate malts. Ugh. Taste is a let down. Very burnt, chcoolate and smoked. semi-sweet chocolate at the finish.

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is nutty, chocolate, some smokiness, grass, coffee, bread. Smells all right. Taste is dry and nutty; some dark chocolate, a hint of coffee; pretty mild. Unfortunately, not real full flavored. Glad to have tried it; probably won’t be drinking it again.

Really a mostly-average porter. Cocoa and coffee are devloped but it has a weak palate.
