COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Planet Porter is a big beer for everyone. Don't be afraid of the dark; this beer is very drinkable and remarkably smooth, brewed for a malty, coffee-like flavor. A once almost extinct style of ale, Boulder Brewing helped revive the category and this is now one of the oldest American porters.

completely black color with medium tan head. the aroma reveals some black coffee, dark chocolate, and some molasses and toffee. The flavor consists of mild coffee, dark chocolate, and some toffee. theres also just a little carmel malt. kind of boring and has a flat soda palate.

Deep mahogony brown in color with a small bit of head. Roasty-coffee nose. Defined coffee flavor as well with a roast finish, though light on the palate. Notes: Brewery visit during GABF

Aroma is chocolate, malts, earthiness and a hint of fruit. The flavor is dark malts, a mix of red and dark fruit and a mildly tart, smooth finish.

Originally reviewed: 10/13/09. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a dark chocolate color with a thin tan head on top. Retention is weak, but it leaves some nice sticky lace on the glass. Smells of roasted wood and milk chocolate. Smells very sweet. Body is light and thin. A little wet feeling. Decent flavor, but finishes a tad sour. Some mild roasted flavor mixed with some powdered cocoa. Not bad, but nothing standout. A few things could be tweaked for sure.

Black with a thin tan head. A serviceable and forgettable porter. Hints of coco and roast are dull and almost no aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown, clear deep brown, limited retention, light lacing thin tan head... Aroma is of more choc than roast coffee.. Creamy light roast coffee taste, less choc than expected... lively kinda thin body medium...

This is a straight-forward porter, opaque and nearly black in color, with a half-inch foam stand that is tan in color and settles to a wide ring. The nose is predominantly dark chocolate, black coffee, and burnt toast with a touch of licorice. It’s pretty much the same story when sipped; the dark chocolate and coffee flavors stand out, but dark roast finishes strongly with a slightly burnt character, and there is a general licorice note throughout. Medium in weight, quite dry on the palate, and moderately carbonated. Overall, this is about what I expect out of a "six-pack" beer; it’s drinkable, simple, to style, but not memorable.

Nearly black opaque color with a generous dark tan head and big splotches of lace. The taste is "just another chocolate/coffee porter" with an off-putting chalkiness, and bittering that is solid, but that doesn’t work well with the porter taste. Overall, a big taste for the low abv, but not tasty or satisfying.

On tap at Dads Kitchen. Pours almost black, thick tan head. Aroma is like a lager, not great... Flavor is so much better nice roasted malt, some coffee in the background, but very light, almost watery. Overall a very drinkable porter, but a little to light for my porter taste.

Bottle. Pours a deep black color with a nice tan head. Chocolaty aroma with some roasted malt. Roasted vanilla, malt, and some toffee in the flavor. Pretty decent. Love me some Boulder Beer.

Draft. Pours black with minimal head. Smell is minimal but bread is there. Overall taste is light..similar to guinness.
