Coffee palate and some chicory malt flavor up front but not much after it, kind of a let down. It could be a good porter for sessioning, and is not a bad beer, but not exceptional either.
LooseCannon (680), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Oct 7, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours black in color with brown head. Aroma sweet, chocolate and roasted coffee. Taste dark chocolate, roasted malt and woody with dry finish. IrishBoy (2163), Bakersfield, California, USA Sep 30, 2008 12 oz bottle from Supermarket Liquors, Cheyenne, WY; Nose of vanilla, caramel, and toasted nutty chocolate; Hazy dark brown with a medium tan head; flavor has coffee, chocolate, minor bitterness; finish is vanilla and very mild bitterness. Not a 3.0 beer! douglas88 (820), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 27, 2008 12 ounce bottle. Thanks Richard. Pours a dark black color which reveals itself to be more of a ruby hue when light shines in. A large beige colored head. The aroma is very nice; tons of roasted malts, caramel, a large vanilla aspect, and some light chocolate. The flavor is full of lightly roasted malt, caramel, some light hops, rich milky coffee in the middle and a long dry coffee in the finish. Very nice. beer_chugger (66), Colorado, USA Sep 27, 2008 Pours very dark and the head dissipates very quickly. I have to admit, this tasted like mildewing grass. I thought it was gross. I could tell some roasted malts, but the whole nasty mildew flavor just killed me. I have two left, I’m hoping I just had a bad bottle. Will re-rate appropriately if the other two are better. alraicercsu (106), Ft.Collins, Colorado, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark dark dark red color with tan head. Smells of chocolate, raisin and a bit of hops. Tastes of wood, chocolate and a little fruit. Slight bitter after taste.
