Deep mahogony brown in color with a small bit of head. Roasty-coffee nose. Defined coffee flavor as well with a roast finish, though light on the palate.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Transfer from BA review on 12-2-12-
Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance- The beer pours a deep brown color with a two finger cream colored head. The head has a great level of retention but fades slowly over time to give a nice level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of chocolate and roasted malt aromas. Mixed with these are some sweet aromas of caramel and vanilla as well as a very light coffee smell.
Taste – Overall the taste is relatively light. The taste starts out with some roasted malt and a light chocolate flavor. As the taste advances some lighter notes of vanilla come to the tongue. In the end a greater chocolate flavor comes to the tongue and mixes with a lighter coffee flavor to leave a subtle cocoa and roasted coffee flavor on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is below average in terms of thickness and creaminess and the carbonation level is rather average. While the carbonation for the style was nice, the body of the beer was too watery for the style
Overall – It had a nice smell and look, but due to the lightness of flavors (which actually were nice) and the very weak body, not really the best porter out there. While not that flavorful, I suppose it would function well as a session style porter, although when you want a porter usually you are not looking for something of a session drink.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2011 backlog. 12oz bottle. Pours near black with a 2 finger tan head. The nose is roasted malt, metallic, and chocolate. The taste is smoke, roasted malt, metal, ashy cocoa and light coffee. Medium bodied. Ok porter – the metallic flavor is a bit off-putting. 3.2

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
[Tap] Pours brown in color without much head, but with decent lacing in the glass. Nose is of generic roasted malts, coffee and dry grains. Taste is roasty with coffee coming out above a general nuttiness. Mildly sour. Thin mouthfeel leads to a grainy finish. Ehh. Tasting notes from 11/2011.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Boulder Beer Planet Porter has a medium, creamy, beige head, a very dark, almost black, brown appearance, and a good amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is of dark-roasted barley malt, charcoal, sweetness, and black cherry. Taste is of those elements, with the noticeable char, yet little bitterness is detected. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Planet Porter finishes semi-dry, rich, sweet, and good. RJT

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Twelve ounce bottle from Beer Of The (Every Other) Month Club. Almost opaque dark brown/ruby color, nose of roasted malt and sweet dark fruit with some complexity, taste has some nice malty/chocolate notes but overall the flavor is too thin and watery with too much carbonation--doesn’t live up to the aroma’s promise.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle (from notes). Pours dark brown in color with a small khaki head. The aroma and flavor have light toasted malt, mild chocolate, light earthy hops with a slightly bitter finish. This is a bit thin and none of the flavors stand out.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 9/20
Thanks to Ken for providing this sample. The aromas malty, with notes of caramel, chocolate and coffee. A brownish-black pour with a robust rocky, rapidly dissipating, tan head providing moderate lacing. The taste follows the nose, roasted malts, with hints of coffee and coco. A bit of grain shows up in the finish. Medium-light body and medium carbonation. Overall, very drinkable, but not very robust in flavor.

Pours a nice coffee brown with an etched, light tan surface with the slightest rose color. Smells robustly soily, some cardboard, molasses and cocoa (nestle, carnation, something cheap). Flavor of coffee, cocoa, light toasted grain and some smoke. Thin with low carb and an off dry finish. Meh, wouldn’t look for this or advise somebody to drink.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Rich, roasted, but bright in flavor, black malt defines this porter, which is fresh on the nose and sweet, but almost sour, in roasted richness in the mouth. Nice and thin, but full enough on the palate, it’s a nice choice for breakfast. It tastes like fresh roasted malt and a little like coffee grounds, especially in the finish.
