4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Boulder Shake Chocolate Porter has a thick, creamy, beige head, a dark brown appearance, with red highlights, under light, and fairly substantial lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of chocolate, intense malts, dark wheat bread, bread crust, cream, milk, and sugar. Taste is of those elements, with acidity, bitterness, and cocoa powder. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Boulder Shake Chocolate Porter finishes fairly crisp and highly drinkable. The alcohol is not as apparent as 5.9% American-style lagers (such as Natural Ice or Schlitz XL). RJT

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at chriso’s Post-GBBF 2014 Tasting - London. Pours clear brown with a bubbly, off-white head. Cheap chocolate on the nose, soft roast. Light sweet flavor with dark bread, artificial chocolate, burnt sugars. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary dark malts to finish with more fake cocoa character. Not awesome.

Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is milk chocolate, coffee, and earthy notes. Flavor is chocolate, sweet coffee, vanilla, and some earthiness. Light to medium body with medium carbonation. Not bad flavor but I don’t love the mouthfeel.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted from the bottle....smells chocolaty, almost like hot chocolate, but not the kind made with milk, the kind made with water. Tastes a little like water hot cocoa also. The beer flavor is subtle, but present, and i didn?t catch any coffee like flavor. I would?ve enjoyed that better. It?s okay, but not memorable.

so you want a chocolate porter... you want a good chocolate taste and at least a milky consistancy, but you still want it to be beery. Boulder beer had what i wanted! cocoa cereal flavor, nice foamy, frothy and flavorful carbonation and i like the way they recessed the beer aspect and kept the beer flavor something that went really well with the cocoa milk profile. no need for brewmaster adaptations. simply what it is and done as right as can be expected.
