Our twist on the traditional american porter, Shake chocolate porter is black in color with rich, dark chocolate aromatics and flavors and subtle coffee-like notes. This unique brew blends five different grains, including Chocolate Wheat, that along with cacao nibs create a devilishly delicious chocolate finish with a velvety mouth feel.

This brew smells like a chocolate shake and has a wonderful chocolate flavor. I shy away from many Porter beers due to an aversion I have acquired when I first started brewing. I once subscribed to the mantra. "If a little is good, a lot is better". But then I added too much chocolate malt to a batch of Porter. My friends and wife drank it all, as I became overwhelmed by specific flavor of chocolate malt. Did I mention, Iím a beer snob. And I hate my own beer from time to time. Thankfully, Iím not a slow learner. I matured a bit as a home brewer. You can double the ingredients of many beers and wind up with something amazing. Iíve taken milk stouts and Guiness style stouts way up in OG and adjuvants. But many commercially available small batch brewers donít or canít discern the taste of a chocolate malt overdose. This beer is perfectly balanced and flavorful. The head was thick because it was on Nitro. This beer is an art form. A scoop of ice cream in this or a Milk Stout Nitro and Iím approaching beer Nirvana. This is a righteous Chocolate Porter. I hate to call it a porter as I damn near never drink Porters. I think it could qualify as a Shake Stout. Really tasty. Just right. Skip dessert and order one of these w a scoop of ice cream!

Quite good. Strong chocolate malt aroma. Dark and thick in appearance with a creamy head. Viscous palate with appropriate carbonation. Like drinking chocolate cake. Semi-sweet with a lactose feel. Coffee and vanilla as well.

On tap. Rich dark black with a tan nitro-esque head. Aroma is lots of chocolate sweetness. Unsurprisingly, smells like chocolate ice cream or a chocolate shake. Flavor is similar. Lots of chocolate, rich dark malts, very slight coffee flavor. Mouthfeel is super creamy. Not sure if this is nitro but it drinks like one. Very nice pleasant mouthfeel, silk-like. Excellent porter. Reminds me of left handís milk stout. Definitely in that sweet stout/porter realm.

Transfer from BA review on 11-10-13 Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance Ė The beer pours a super deep brown, nearly black color, with a very small fizzy cream colored head. The head fades very fast, leaving a bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass and a decent bit of spotty foam on the surface of the beer. Smell Ė The aroma is quite tasty. It contains lots of dark chocolate and a big dose of coffee. Along with these smells is some vanilla sweetness as well as a bit of grainy chocolate malt and caramel smell. Overall it is deep and dark with lots of roasted coffee and chocolate; like a dark chocolate bar with coffee beans. Taste Ė The taste begins with a sweet coffee and chocolate flavor. The chocolate is of a dark chocolate flavor mixed with a sweeter vanilla and cane sugar flavor. The coffee starts out a bit lighter but gains more potency as the flavors moves on. Some vanilla flavors develop more in the middle and toward the end creating a very nice chocolate bar flavor. Along with the vanilla, the sweetness of the brew increases with the dark chocolate taking on a more milk chocolate flavor when mixed with the bit of lactose sweetness that comes to the tongue. In the end a rather sweet and coffee, creamy chocolate bar flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel Ė The body of the beer is on the medium to slightly thicker side with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly lower side. The slightly thicker body and lighter carbonation are great for all the darker and sweet chocolate/coffee flavors of the brew making for a nice decadent drinker. Overall - Big and sweet with lots of chocolate and nice roasted flavors. A nice brew when looking for something sweet, chocolaty and coffee like.

A dark reddish black beer with a small tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, lots of chocolate, just delicious. The flavor is full of chocolate , a little thin bodied like a Carnation instant breakfast with skim milk.

12 oz. bottle at Arthurís, poured into a pint glass. Pours a deep, dark brown - not opaque, though, as it shows some copper throughout - with a finger of foamy tan head. Light lace. The aroma and flavor are pretty much the same - the chocolate wheat and cacao nibs create a two-headed monster of sweet chocolaty character, with vanilla and coffee. But the mouthfeel also has a bit of a metallic note that keeps it from being a really good chocolate porter. Light-medium bodied, with medium carbonation and a sweet, metallic mouthfeel. Not bad, but could and should be better.

Keg at Capital Ale House Harrisonburg. Pours a clear dark brown with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate ice cream, vanilla, mild roast. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, mild fruits. Medium bodied, low carbonation.
