Our twist on the traditional american porter, Shake chocolate porter is black in color with rich, dark chocolate aromatics and flavors and subtle coffee-like notes. This unique brew blends five different grains, including Chocolate Wheat, that along with cacao nibs create a devilishly delicious chocolate finish with a velvety mouth feel.

A very good chocolate porter, like a chocolate milk shake. Pours a deep black with a brown head. Smells of chocolate, vanilla, s'mores. Taste is super creamy, with lots of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and cream. Had in the bottle.

Delicious chocolate aroma on this one, even if it is coming mainly from the additives rather than the malt. Deep, deep semi-sweet chocolate flavors with just enough bitterness to balance it out nicely. Ends with a great, soft & almost slightly sour milk chocolate aftertaste. Very nice.

Shared bottle. Really good. Dark chocolate notes from start to finish. Great mouthfeel and solid body for a porter. Not overly complex but it what it claims to be so full marks for honesty.

Pours pitch black and completely opaque with dark mahogany edges and a one finger beige head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention with streaks of soapy lacing left behind. Smokey aroma with a nice balance of robust roast and sweeter, dessert-like dark malt character. Very roasty at first with hints of burnt malt, espresso bean, charcoal, liquid smoke, dark chocolate and oatmeal. This is countered by sweeter dark malt notes and a prominent silky chocolate presence. Hints of bakerís chocolate, toffee, caramel and flour less chocolate cake. A little heavy on the roast but not acrid at all with a decent amount of sweetness for balance. On the lighter end of medium body with very strong roasted dark malt flavor that overpowers the sweeter chocolate malt flavors. Not as well balanced as the nose suggests with a much stronger, slightly acrid burnt malt presence that lingers over the sweeter notes into a very dry finish. Smokey with hints of ash, burnt toast and charred wood along with bittersweet dark chocolate, oatmeal and spent coffee grinds. Thereís some lighter malt sweetness toward the end of the palate with hints of milk chocolate, hazelnut and caramel but everything us overwhelmed by the heavy roast. The light mouthfeel and subtle sweetness help drinkability but thus beer is too one dimensional and overly roasted for my preference.

So I saw chocolate shake porter on the menu and probably somewhere in the back of my head, a little voice was crying, "Donít do it, itís Boulder!" but I didnít catch on to this, and the brewer wasnít listed (seems to be a very common practice at bars in seattle, WTF), so I asked the waitress who made it and she hesitated and said, "Backwoods, I think?". Well, itís not Backwoods. No, itís not any of the brewers in Seattle. To get something this vile, you have to travel down to Colorado and find yourself at Boulder Beer Company. Long story short, this sorry excuse for a beer tasted exactly like tootsie pops, sweetness and all, with exactly zero beer character. Needless to say, most of my pint was left behind in disgust. I hate you, Boulder (but itís kind of fitting that the worst beer I had on the trip, by a longshot, wasnít even from WA).
