Well, I’m trying to get through the rest of the Summer beers I have in the fridge so I can move on to the Winter and Holiday Brews. This is the second to last Summer Brew left for me... Boulder Beer Sweaty Betty Blonde is pale gold (very slightly hazy) in color with moderate carbonation and a foamy white head. The aroma reminded me of apple juice and the smell of the light syrup that canned fruit is packed in. The initial flavor is toasted wheat and then it becomes more like a subtle rock candy and candied fruit (mandarin oranges) combination. The flavors are light, but somehow intriguing and complex. The finish has a hint of yeast and is a little watery. Palate average and not overly carbonated. There is a milky texture to the mouthfeel. This was a good American Wheat beer. 12 oz bottle, $1.10 from Belmont Party Supply (on sale from $1.60).

12oz bottle-pours a white head and cloudy straw color. Aroma is sweet rock candy, musty wheat, medium fruit, clove, spice. Taste follows.

The 12 ounce bottle poured a slightly hazy light yellow beverage with an average sized fizzy white head that was mostly diminishing and left some lacing on the glass. The aroma was primarily of sour fruit gone bad. There were hints of citrus and old leather in the background. The body was medium-light with lively carbonation and a watery texture. The flavor starts off sour and astringent. The finish is thankfully medium-short because the sour astringent flavor persists and is rather unpleasant. Did my bottle go bad? Will this work better as a drain cleaner?

The Sweaty Betty is another beer we’ve been staring at for a while, and finally decided to pick up and try. It pours a dark yellow color that was equated to the color of pineapple, crowned by an average-sized, white fizzy head. Virtually no lacing left behind by the mostly diminishing head. Hazy body with small particles, as this is an unfiltered offering. Aroma is an interesting bouquet of light bread malts, and a caribbean blend of banana and pineapple. Initial taste is lightly sweet and sour, with an acetic finish that doesn’t last long. Light on the mouth, we’re left both watery and oily, with soft carbonation..

An odd beer and interesting tasting thanks to Cottrell. The pour was slightly hazy golden yellow, much like a hefe or witbier. The aroma was funk wheat and some light fruits. The flavor was apples, bananas, light grapes, and other fruits. I couldn’t place the odd flavor underneath it all, perhaps a spice? The mouthfeel was light/moderate. An interesting beer, but not my preference, more like a hefe/wit oddball than anything within an American Wheat.

You ae wong! If you want a banana spice flavour go to Gentle Bens in Tucson when they brew the wheat beer. Sweaty Betty is perhaps the only Boulder offering that sucks big time. It tasts and smells of fermented armpits. What a challenge! Clothespin your nose and suck it down in one gulp- that is the only way one can drink this. The CIA could use it in interrogation techniques. Forced to drink this the subject would relent after one bottle and tell all.

Bottle. Cloudy deep yellow color. Banana and spice nose. Wheaty and spicey with flavors of banana, coriander and cloves. Very refreshing.
