COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Porter's popularity, in London during the early 1700's to the mid-1800's is legendary. Although stout was derived from Porter, it is now commonly thought to be placed, as a beer style, between brown ale and stout. The San Lorenzo Porter fits right in between those guidelines. Dark, roasty, coffee overtones define it's malt profile with hops added for a balance of flavor not typically found in a stout.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours black with a lasting tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasty chocolate and espresso, with some earthy hops. Flavor is the same. A bit creamy mouthfeel. A solid porter, on the sweet and moderately hoppy, but still very easy-drinking side.

I am a big fan of porters. But their porter missed the mark to me. Nice deep dark color and great lacing, but way too hoppy for a porter. The chocolate malt was masked by the bitterness, which should not happen in a porter, for me.
