COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Situated at opposite ends of the California Trail, pioneering breweries Sierra Nevada and Boulevard have embarked upon a journey into the unknown, to a land where adventures in brewing and flavor await. Terra Incognita is, fittingly, an earthy beer, celebrating the unique terroir of the two locations. Beginning with Sierra Nevadaís estate-grown pale malt, and combined with amber malt, wheat, and malted wheat, it is then assertively hopped with Bravo and Styrian Goldings, dry-hopped with East Kent Goldings, and finally barrel aged with Brettanomyces in Missouri oak.
Originally brewed at Boulevard and released exclusively on draft at SAVOR Fest 2012. Batch 2 was brewed at Boulevard and re-released to the general public in bottles on 6-18-13.

I smell a bar fight coming on...whiskey shot sitting on an old western bar. Black as the night the victor flees into. Light as his step that no one hears. Muddy footsteps disappear. Gunshots sound. All is quiet. There is no resolution. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sierra Nevada-Boulevard Terra Incognita 3 has a thin, beige head, a turbid, dark brown (think of prune juice) appearance, and little-to-no lacing left behind. The aroma is strong and bold- white wine, vanilla, sugar, brown bread, dark fruits, brown bread, and coconut. Taste is of all those elements, with shades of coffee, bakerís chocolate, bread crust, and shaved coconut. Bitterness is fairly low. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Sierra Nevada-Boulevard Terra Incognita 3 finishes on the dry side and surprisingly drinkable. RJT

Bottle, shared with Parksy, Grippitis, JJ. Muddy brown with a lively beige head. Heavy lactic-sourness aroma, a bit musty, underlying tart fruits. Flavours of raisins, cherries, yohurty sourness, seedy bitter finish. Yum!

Pours brown with not much of a nose. Nutty taste - reminds me of a brown ale - with a slightly more complex finish of slight bourbon. Given how much I like Sierra Nevada, this one is a little disappointing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown to black with light tan head... Aroma of earth, light funk, nuts, light tartness... Flavor is earthy and grainy, light tartness and spiciness, bready and earthy finish... Interesting ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Douglas. Thanks! A: Dark mahogany color with a creme colored head. Lacing. N: Grape, cocoa, tobacco, leather, grapefruit, acetone, toffee, and diacetyl. T: Semi-tart, weird bittersweet mixture. M: Creamy carbonation, medium mouthfeel. O: Strange duck. This isnít interesting, unless you feel like you should be picking out brewing flaws, and given the pedigree, itís quite frankly disappointing.

750 ml bottle. Pours a clearish brown color with a small white head. A sweet toffee nose, some dusty leaves. A light sour malty base, caramel, toffee, red wine, amber malty base. OK.

750 ml bottle aged since it release, time to pop! Deep brown pour, lasting fluffy off white head that lasts until the conclusion. Aroma is light sour tones of shoes leather, funky yeast with a note of mild whiskey.

Flavor is oak, dirty malts with the sourness being very mild and subdued. Light tart Berry note with some Brett Bacteria note. Oak is consistent throughout the sip and sourness is low. I like how integrated the flavor are. Body is a nice medium to full with a spunky carbonation level. Is this complex? No it isnít, not really for the extreme sour head but because Iím NOT an extreme Sourhead, I like it pretty well.

THOUGHTS: A wonderful beer. I aged it for almost a year after getting it as SAVOR. The first few swallows produced an odd saltiness in the center of my tongue. Rather funky toward the front of the tongue but then it dried out and sort of stripped off the layers of flavor to prepare you for the next sip. One of the strangest things Iíve ever tasted. Brett nose kept getting more and more complex. His alcohol perhaps better than any other beer Iíve tried. TECHNICAL: Drank 5/18/2013. Bottle. Poured a fairly clear, dark, brownish red with and average, beige, head that kept a thin sheet and left good lacing. The aroma had light to moderate caramel malt; light toasted malt; light and stale herbal and spicy hops; moderate to heavy barnyard, leather, cheese, earthy and funky yeast; lighter dried saliva yeast; sour cherry; red wine; light sour citrus; wood; sour fruit; slight pepper. The initial flavor was lightly sweet, moderately acidic and slightly sour; while the finish was lightly sweet, moderate to heavily sour slightly bitter, lightly acetic, and slightly salty but only in the center of the tongue. There was caramel, toasted malt, sour fruit, sour citrus, earthy yeast, leather, funky yeast, cheesy yeast, sour cherry, hints of herbal hops, wood and so much more. red wine, hints of chocolate, and salted caramel in the center of the tongue. The medium body was extremely easy to drink for the style and ABV. It was creamy and then very dry wirh pinprick fizzy carbonation and a dry finish.
