COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With roots in two of today’s most popular brewing styles, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer is the result of careful cultivation by our brewers and cellarmen. Their efforts to craft a hybrid yielded a bumper crop of flavor; a delightfully distinctive ale with the aroma of an IPA and the refreshing taste of a wheat beer.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy yellowish color with a smaller white head. Plenty of lacing was left on the side of the glass as it went. Aroma was citrus, banana, spruce and grapefruit. Flavor was floral notes, with spices and citrus. Some hop bitters in the finish. The more I drink this beer the more I like it.

First sampled from a 12 oz shorty, with a stamped on "best by" date. I live the in the KC metro, and this was a much anticipated release, and I wasn’t disappointed. A pretty big nose of fruity and citrus hops. It definitely drinks like a wheat, with a mouthfeel much like their Unfiltered Wheat. Very refreshing, and it will certainly be a staple, especially when the Midwest summer heat cranks up.

12 oz bottle from the Binnys South Loop Build-A-6 Rack (Chicago, IL). Pours a hazy yellow hue, lively carbonation, mellow haze and dulled middle with brighter sunny edges. A frothy white head as a good mellow layer laces ok. Sticks around small. Aromas are grassy and lemony hops, fresher lively aromas offer florals, flaked wheat and bready malts. Fairly dry, nice hopping is lively and lemony, grassy. Touches of grapefruit, lemongrass. Initial is lighter end of the fold preaching earthy hops, grass and florals, growing lemon after the initial. Lighter sessionable malt body offers more florals, lemongrass, kiss of gumball and fruity sweetness. Middle is lighter mellow malt body, dry bread, touch of dough. Straw, cereal elements, lighter crisp dry malt elements. Nose grows on me as it warms, offering some melon, citrus, tropical fruit sweetness. Nothing potent, but firm and enjoyable. Flavors are solid if a bit more bland compared to the nose. Lingering dryness, straw and gentle citrus and fruity hops. It’s not complex, but it’s a solid more fruity hop forward sessioner. Nice brew.

Because I live in KC and hoped (hopped) I’d have a home-grown version of 3F Gumballhead, I’m remiss to say that this brew tastes like blvd wheat with hops added just to call it a hoppy wheat. True believers take heart, and it’s good but spoils go to the victors, not to play it safe brews.

Bottle. Hazy yellow pour, big white head, good retention/lace. Aroma of wheat, tropical hops, lemon, bread. Taste is lightly bitter, wheat, citrus, dough, yeast. Palate is soft, creamy, bitter finish. Very nice.

Bottle and served in my smaller Ayinger hefe glass: Pours a tad hazy with a lovely frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma comes right out a says HOPS HERE! Resiny, grapefruit, mango, hint of leafy dank as it warms along with pale malt and wheat. The taste is moderately acidic and quite fruity over a soft layer of wheat and biscuit malt. Slight pepper and clove on the finish along with a touch of metallic notes. Overall this is more akin to an IPA than a Wheat Ale as we normally know it. Either way I found it quite enjoyable and quite refreshing. I need more!

12 oz bottle. Pours very hazy straw yellow with a huge rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is wheaty malts, tropical fruits and some piney, lightly resiny, hops.

The flavor is slightly sweet wheaty malts and some tropical fruits with decent piney / resiny bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, an interesting hoppy wheat.

Shared 12 oz. bottles poured to snifters by TAPS at Lunar Brewing Co.. Showed a yellow/gold color with silky white head foam, and dots & dashes of lacing. The aroma was strongly resinous, grapefruit, lemon, with some tropical hints. The flavor was similar but less expressive, adding low spicy hop, light wheat, with a light to medium body, and a lightly dry and crisp finish to complement it’s sessionability.

Pours a hazy straw color with a thin white head, decent retention and lacing. Nose doesn’t offer much (kinda pissy to be honest) but mouth is a different story. Crispy dry with some citrus (lemon, grapefruit) and piney notes, medium body and some bread towards the end. Reminds me a bit of Gumballhead, but definitely its own brew. Once again, yay BBC.
