3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bhensonb (8995) - Woodland, California, USA - JAN 2, 2013
Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours hazy light gold with a creamy/bubbly white head. Aroma is fairly hoppy. Mixed hop. Med body. Flavor is fruity/wheaty. There’s a certain problem with this hopped up wheat - suggests something of an off-flavor. But to concentrate on the hop - it’s hoppy, finishing dry with some suggestions of grapefruit rind.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 3fourths (6950) - Straßgiech, Bavaria, GERMANY - AUG 31, 2012
bottle. hazed yellow body with a white head. nose of grapefruit, pine resin, dishsoap foam and citronella candle (both the waxy petroleum base and the burning wick)... it’s like the DEET insect repellent my dad would make me use as a child, the stuff that will melt plastic if you don’t clean it off your hands. medium-light body, waxy texture, dull and lifeless carbonation with muted wheat and malt flavor soaked in grapefruit and lemon pith-like citrus. medium bitterness; medium-low acid; mostly dry. lingering waxy finish with an abrupt flattening of the body late. resinous, oily / waxy texture, difficult to enjoy, and difficult to get past the citronella candle resemblance.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ughsmash (6669) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 16, 2013
Bottled. Poured slightly hazy straw golden with a creamy, well-retained white head. The aroma picked up bright, fresh citrus and grassy hops over soft wheat and a hit of lemon meat.. hopped up and very enjoyable. The flavor found bitter, tangy lemon zest and grassy notes plus lively carbonation on the tip of the tongue, with soft wheat and bready notes backing.. engaging through the palate.. tangy wheat and lemon zest rode out the refreshing finish. Lighter-bodied with fairly high carbonation on the palate.. buttery-smooth middle, but it got hung up in a few places.. overall a very good beer.

Body is hazy dark yellow, unfiltered.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), lightly yeasty (basement), with notes of gasoline and lemon zest.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
I’m surprised they managed to get higher alcohols out of such a basic low/med-alcohol brew, but the gasoline odor is distinctive and very off-putting. It’s not apparent right at first, but after only a few minutes in the glass it comes out and gets stronger with time. And no, it’s not the room, my glass, hand/arm, or upper lip, I made sure of that. That aside, this simply uses raw hop odor to try to make things interesting. Sadly for me, I find the resinous type of hop aroma crude and non-enticing. So even without the petrol stink, this wouldn’t score too much higher...maybe a 5 for aroma. Looks nice though.
