COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With roots in two of today’s most popular brewing styles, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer is the result of careful cultivation by our brewers and cellarmen. Their efforts to craft a hybrid yielded a bumper crop of flavor; a delightfully distinctive ale with the aroma of an IPA and the refreshing taste of a wheat beer.

Pours a slightly hazy gold with a white head and lacing. It has a fairly rich citrus and pine hops and wheat aroma. It has a flavor that is balanced hops up front with a smooth body and crisp aftertaste. It's definitely one of my new favorite light beers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow color with a ginormous white head on it. Nose is slightly citrusy with some wheat elements in there. Taste has a slight sour note from the citrus, but a nice light wheaty palate. Easy and tasty drink. I like it muchly.

Pours a hazy yellow from the bottle with thin lacy ring of head that doesn’t really stick on the way down. Aroma and taste are of fresh piney hops, backed by a nice wheat malt backbone. Good stuff.

Citrus hop aromas, distinctly wheat, grainy, and bready malts. Some citrus hop flavors, lemon zest, and wheat. Floral and earthy notes very much present as well. Finishes smooth. Crisp and refreshing. Lighter body and medium-high carbonation.

I see the word "hoppy" and immediately look the other way. A friend convinced me to try this beer and I was quite impressed! There is an oh-so-slight bitterness and hop flavor that smoothes out the beer to make for an excellent, refreshing drink. This pours with a shade not unlike orange juice.

On draft at the KCBM 2011 Homebrew Competition. Aroma holds no real surprises, with plenty of citric, fruity hop, lemon, faintly grainy, wheat malt and very slight esters in the background. Thoroughly cloudy golden color, with a fine, lasting head, really doesn’t appear to be any different than the standard Wheat. Flavor is decently hopped as well, again with an overt citrus character from beginning to end, paired with a distinctly wheaty malt base, this showing through primarily at the finish, which is dry and fairly refreshing. Some lingering leafy hop character here as well. Bitterness is fairly light, surprisingly. Body is light-medium, palate is creamy and effervescent. Nicely balanced and refreshing. Heck of a lot better and more interesting than Boulevard Wheat, but I am likely just burned out on that stuff.

Bottlevat Big Muddy in Alton. This poured hazy and kind of yellowish. A hoppy aroma withcitrus and light pine. In the flavor the wheat is tasted and it is probably their wheat beer as the base. Hops are nice and are as the aroma would indicate. The finish is a bit of brett. A nice beer.

This definitely leans more towards the IPA side of the equation. Lots of citrusy hops and just a wee bit of wheat character. Some nice grassy flavors, as well. Simple and tasty, and well made. Thanks to theisti for the trade.

In short: A tart and fruity-hoppy wheat base ale. Very good.
How: Bottle 12oz, consumed fresh one week after purchase from a Kansas store.
The look: Cloudy dark yellow body topped by a medium white head with medium retention.
In long: Nose is dominantly hoppy blending with the fruity esters of wheat beer creating an inviting aroma that is a mix of pineapples, grapefruits and bananas. Taste offers a very solid wheat backbone, fresh bakery white bread, fresh bananas, sharp bitter grapefruits, hops resin, freshly squeezed lemons, medium yeast presence. Medium tartness, low-medium bitterness. My bottle lacked a bit of carbonation which is surprising coming from a mass produced Boulevard 12oz bottle. The lack of carbonation made the beer feel a bit heavier than it certainly is. I enjoyed this beer despite the low carbonation and I’m sure I would love it with a more active carbonation. A nice beer my wife brought me back from a business trip, and when I miss my wife because she is away on business I just type stuff in Google because it finishes all my sentences with stuff I didn’t mean.
