caramel, roasty, spruce, black, minimal head, tan foam, full body, thick feel, long finish. This is a solid Porter....almost tastes like a smoked porter.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 otakuden (1558) - Vero Beach, USA - DEC 30, 2011
Appearance: dark fruit with garnet highlights. Khaki head fades bubbly and soft while lace crawls up the sides. Swirls thick and fluffy.
Nose: come to Kristyn oh decadent delicious dark fruit laden black cake and dark fruit infused brownies – prunes and dates especially. Meaty and chewy. Smoky in the back. Pumpernickel sticks. Humidor rich with tobacco and cigar leaf esters. Maraschino cherry cordials. Chocolate marshmallow cookies – moist and soft. Truffle powder.
Palate: medium-bodied with a bitter finish of chocolate powder – dry and parching. Ash-dusted fudge. Fireplace and tobacco smoke. Long parching profile from start to finish. Dry brittle chocolates, burnt along the edges, and crumble upon touching. Woodsy tannins along the edges with cake and fudge in the middle.
Final Thoughts: intriguing for sure. A porter with some not so distant stout relatives. At a sessionable 5.4%abv I could easily and happily toss back a few pints of the Bully! Porter. Maybe even throw some raw oysters in the mix for some simply divine beer and food pairing.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2012 Pours a translucent blck with an amber tint. Aroma of roasty malts. Coffee flavor and roasted malt. Not much else going on . Pretty straighforward. Light body and carbonation for a porter. Seems unusual for a porter. Overall an easy to drink porter.

It pours a near amber brown tint, but isn’t foggy at all. It’s medium-to-light bodied and has a nice roasted flavor that lasts pretty well. The carbonation was a little too heavy though, which got in the way of the flavor for me. It wasn’t very satisfying for me, since I imagine a porter having a little more body and less carbonation.

Pretty good porter. Medium body with a fizzy carbonation. Taste is light roast with medium sweetness and a malty body. Not as roasted or dry as I like porters but still good.

Pours a dark hazelnut brown color wih burgundy edges and a one finger light beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of lacing left behind.
Slightly toasty aroma with caramel malt sweetness, hazelnut, toffee and chocolate. Slightly smokey with a faint hop presence in the nose.
Medium bodied with soft carbnation and a slightly roasted malt character up front. Hints of toast, caramel, and toffee balanced a by a subtle smokiness as well as some autumnal spice. Slight hop bitterness balances things lingering into a dry finish.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into an English Pint. Pours black with about 3 fingers of light tan head. Aroma of pine hops, light chocolate and coffee. Taste is light bitter. Very hop-oriented porter. Lots of pine with a bit of coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied with thick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, pretty good. I would drink it again.

Pours very dark with a big fluffy head on it. Smells roasty, malty, chocolate and coffee. Has a bit of a yeasty taste for porter, but it’s really solid. Heavily roasted malt flavour, a bit coffee and really smooth drinking.
