Fruit and roast aromas. Dark coloured hoppy and fruity with a crisp and bitter dry roast finish.

Pours a black color with a one finger mocha head that retains, beautiful lacing throughout. Aroma of roasty malts and hops. Taste follows the nose, a little more hoppy than the typical porter and that’s what I like about it. Smooth, slightly sweet while still bitter. Good balance but it doesn’t stifle the hop profile. Good porter!

Robust taste with a bit of a bitter bite at the end. Not my favorite, but a decent fix.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2012 This was one of the first craft beers I ever tried, and it helped me branch out from the pale lagers I’d been drinking at the time, so I will always have a special place for Bully! Porter even if chocolate and coffee beers like porters and stouts are not my preferred style. The hops content here is noticeable, and the chocolate and coffee overtones are nice without being overpowering as in some porters. The initial flavor is strong, and the aftertaste is long-lasting. Bully! is medium-bodied and has a fairly strong malty aroma, but it isn’t an off-putting one. The alcohol content ranges from 4.5% to 5.5% on average, and it’s just a few hairs under 200 calories for one 12 oz beer. Nice job as usual, Boulevard, and thanks for turning me onto the craft scene back in 2009.

12oz bottle dated best by 5/12/12 poured into snifter.
Aroma: caramel, chocolate, coffee, roasty, floral hops, earthy, woody
Appearance: medium to dark brown, lots of bubbles rising to top. very little head formed and it dissipated quickly.
Taste: medium sweet, light sour, light bitter
Palate: light body and thin mouthfeel. lively carbonation. extremely thin. not the mouthfeel i was expecting. finish is medium bitter and medium sour.
Overall: very thin porter that is a bit hoppy. definitely not my favorite and I dont think I will pick this up again outside of the Boulevard sampler. Would much rather prefer a Founders porter. This is much too thin for my liking and I don’t really like the hops in this style of beer. The hops seem out of place.

Originally reviewed: 4/26/09. Great extra bottle received from monsterfat in a recent trade (BA).
Pours a thick muddy black with a huge foamy tan head on top. Retention is great, and the lacing is sticky and beautiful. Nice looking beer. Smell is of roasted coffee, and a dry grainy scent. Different.
Mouthfeel is a little spritzy and bubbly. Too much carbonation in this one. I like my porters to be smooth and creamy. Flavor’s full of chocolate, coffee, roasted caramel, and finishes a bit nutty. Good flavor all around.
This is a decent porter that I’m glad I had the opportunity to try.

Bottle at Jackstack in KC on April 18, 2012. Dark brown pour with large head and nice lacing. Roasted malt, coffee and some chocolate in aroma and taste. Little bit bitter, average body for a porter and somewhat rough to drink.

On tap. A great dark color with a light tab head and lots of lacing. It has a hoppy aroma for a porter, along with the toasted malt. The flavor has some spicy hop notes and some sweet coffee malt flavors and a slightly spicy aftertaste.

Pours a translucent black with an amber tint. Aroma of roasty malts. Coffee flavor and roasted malt. Not much else going on . Pretty straighforward. Light body and carbonation for a porter. Seems unusual for a porter. Overall an easy to drink porter.

12 oz. from Chuck’s. Fairly decent porter. Smells appropiately like chocolate. Odd tangy hoppy flavor puts an interesting twist on a classic style.
