dmac (1423), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Oct 28, 2009 12 oz bottle of let down. I was hoping for a nice toasty/chocolatey porter but instead I got a bottle that made me wish it was a yuengling Black & Tan. Poured an okay looking deep dark brown with a large slightly foamy light beige head. Aroma just wasn’t there with hardly any detectable notes but what I could pick up was notes sour vinegar and chocolate, green leafy vegtables and wet earth(really a nice way of saying mud). Body was itself was thin but the mouthfeel was full with some fizzing up when it passes your lips, strong stingy carbonation. Flavor was actually even more watered down then te weak aroma on the front side some sour vinegar and light cheap sugary chocolate. The aftertaste kicks in with some decent roasted and burnt malts and that’s it. Not much here at all. presario (2955), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Oct 10, 2009 Another bottle from the nice half of the mixed pack. Thick brown head keeps a firm watch on the dark brown liquid beneath. Malty aroma. Very nice porter. Chocolate and roast malt. cprochak (388), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 10, 2009 Bottle pours dark brown with eggshell head. Chocolate and roasted marshmallow aroma. Great anilla sweetness then some roastiness and an awesome espresso finish! Great porter. gws57 (1131), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Oct 6, 2009 Had this one bottled, thanks to Wyl!! Opaque, oily dark brown pour with a persistent, thick tan head, chocolate malty nose, brown sugar and malty flavor, slightly bitter hints of coffee, an excellent sample of the style. puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA Oct 1, 2009 Darrrrk brown with tan head. Aroma is amazing! Brown sugar, molasses, dark malts. Mmm... Taste is a fantastic porter. Some sweet maltiness, lots of brown sugar and caramel. Still, it’s got some dark roast flavors too. I like the balance and I like the aroma a lot. Very delicious Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 19, 2009 Strong coffee and faint chocolate smell. Nice taste. Very pretty, dark pour. Good. GranvilleTim (467), Granville, Illinois, USA Sep 5, 2009 Dark pour with a frothy brown head. Roasted malt aroma with hints of coffee and chocolate. Taste is great with a nice dry finish- roastd malt, and coffee. left a nice lacing on the glass. bblack99 (197), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Sep 1, 2009 Pours black but lets lots of burgundy light shine through under a perfect creamy tan head. Roasted malts are the predominate smell and taste, but are highlighted by a touch of coffee and just a bit of chocolate. Hops aren’t very apparent in the aroma, but come through as bittering agents in the finish of this brew. Medium body, definitely lighter than the Dry Stout. Great beer, as I’ve come to expect from my hometown brewery.
