Neighbors for nearly twenty years, Boulevard Brewing Company and The Roasterie share a passion for making extraordinary beverages. In Coffee Ale, our two celebrated brewing traditions come together in a long-awaited collaboration. Ethiopian Sidamo from Africa’s Great Rift Valley has been carefully blended with rye, oats, and malted barley, and spiced with Perle and Styrian Golding hops. The delightfully fragrant beer presents a glowing, tawny-amber hue. The clean, crisp acidity of the air-roasted coffee mingles with malt on the palate, lingering faintly in a subtly sweet finish.

Poured a very dark murky brown with an off-white head. Aroma has lots of cocoa with espresso and rye and cereals. Very interesting aroma. Taste is sweet with chocolate and oatmeal. Coffee flavors are very good too. Not too acidic, mostly very smooth and malty. Finish has a slight touch of hops. Overall this is very good!

Bottled, batch 2013-4 (best by 10-2013). Very dark chestnutty red- brown, head is very large, light tan, and mostly lasting. Very rich, nutty roasted coffee aroma with dark cocoa and creamy lactose undertones. Coffee notes follow through into the taste - subtle bitterness, mild creamy sweetness and a little bit of mellow leather. Big, slightly green/very mildly roasted coffee bean flavors in the immediate aftertaste that wanes into toasted hazelnut and pecan nuttiness. Dusty, slightly dry finish. The alcohol is dangerously well hidden. A very nice example of a beer that highlights coffee using something other than a stout as its base, allowing primarily the roasted coffee, not the roasted malt, to come through. Certainly one of the best coffee beers on the market I’ve had.

A nice nose of coffee, maple, caramel, and a hint of tartness. Attractive brown body with a sufficient creamy head, lacing is plentiful. No doubt, coffee is the main player here, but nicely balanced. In some sense, this seems like an amped up Coffee Bender, which is very nice beer in its own right. Palate is smooth. I like this beer, not as some where the coffee overtakes everything else.

Decent amount of coffee, but the beer is really light and the body is like water. More of a coffee brown.

Good for what it is, but it's not for me. Gorgeous to look at, lovely to smell, gross to taste - the sensation of thick, sticky coffee syrup was too much to overcome. I get what they're trying to do, and it's probably done well, it's just not something I want. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750mL thanks to DedicatedToFun! Murky deep brown to mahogany pour. Thicker latte foam. Huge lacing. Nose is softer coffee latte, rye bread. Taste is biting, richer dark bread, whole wheat, and no green coffee. Overall pretty solid.

Tasting at Kevin’s. Malt and caramel to start with. Then the overall flavor of coffee. Light body. Nice.

750 mL bottle at home. Pours dark brown with very little light penetration, a large, frothy beige head, long retention with light lacing. Aroma is chocolate, toast and cookie malt, coffee, earthy hops, plums, figs, and dates. Flavor is spicy coffee, dark malt, moderate chocolate, dark fruits, light hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium to full body, medium carbonation.
