3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
pours a deep reddish brown with lasting finger of tan froth, good lacing, looks like a stingo to me. Aroma of hazelnut, roast, banana, cocoa powder, caramel, flavor of lightly toasted nuts, with a lingering roasty finish, notes of banana and subtly bitter chocolate. Medium bodied. Not as good as sam smith stingo but a fine brew nonetheless.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap - this one poured a dark brown color, some ruby notes - with a small thin, tan head. Aroma was some light sweet malts, some toasted notes, caramel characters. Flavor was nice and malty sweetness, not too heavy thankfully, sweet brown sugar, light toffee character. Very enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Shared at November tasting. Poured clear brown with a gold hue and a minimal light tan head. Nose was on the sweet side, the taste seemed more balanced between the bitter and sweet. Overall interesting, what I expected from a collaboration like this.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an opaque brown with two finger tan head. Caramel, roasted, wood malt flavors that are fantastic. I can detect hints of cocoa and pepperiness. Herbal hoppy background. Mildly sweet initally then overtaken. Fully body with soft carbonation. Long mildy smokey finish. This is a well crafted beer that is insidiously well balanced given the ABV.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap and snifter served at Lunar Brewing Co., displaying a darkest brown, with some ruby highlighting, a modest layer of off white head foam that quickly broke down to a thin ring and film, and a few light spots & strands of lacing. The aroma started with a low and slightly burnt, dry roastiness, coffee, caramel, dried fruit and malty sweetness, some vinous hints, and light tartness. The flavor advanced the tartness, and offered some dark cherry, moderate and somewhat lingering hop bitterness, light syrupy aspects to the texture, a medium body, soft carbonation, fairly hidden alcohol presence, and a dry finish that retained some of the hop. Kind of a blend of a few Stout characteristics with a mild but dry Old Ale. Would have liked to sense more oak effect, but was quite tasty nonetheless.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a kind of ugly brown with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet of dark fruits, and a crazy amount of pear. Tastes like pear too, but also a woody taste. Little tartness and some caramel. A guy outside is yelling about a raccoon and its really weird. This is a pretty good and unique beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Nice dark brown pour with white head. Aroma is quite potent, lots of english malt, toffee, toast, grain, but also some slightly "sour" aromas, cherries, oak, raisins, plums. Taste is a hybrid of roasty ESB like flavors, with toffee and toasted bread and a sightly vinegary flavor. If they didnít mention they did this on purpose, I might have suggested this beer was infected. The acidity was good for the palate however which was rather light even though the taste was very strong. Strange, Strange beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap. Pours a clear light brown with a tan head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of chocolate and light sweet grains with just a bit of underlying spice. Flavor is a bit thin with light sweet chocolate backed by a hint of roast and dark grains.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: OCT 30, 2012 750 ml corked and caged bottle. Pours dark brown-amber with a large long-sustaining beige head that leaves decorative lacework. Aroma is roasty and consists of dark fruits, SweeTarts, toffee or caramel, booze. Taste is sweet and sour with a dry finish. Itís a little acidic with umami. I also taste spices (cinnamon?). This is a well-made and creative brew, so I give it props for that, but at the moment itís not doing much for me. Itís easier to admire than it is to drink. Addendum: any type of admiration I had for this beer in my initial review started to wane the more I sat with it. Banana and solvent notes started appearing, giving me a headache. What was initially a chore to drink became damn near impossible. Every category from Aroma on down to Overall was brought down. What was an admirable yet hard to drink 3.9 beer became a less desirable 3.3. Even with its many faults, though, there are still things to admire about it, so itís not a total loss.
