COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Collaboration #3 Stingo was brewed using traditional English ingredients. A variety of ale and specialty malts from Yorkshire are at the forefront; their pronounced roasty aroma and flavor contain hints of toffee, cocoa and bread crust. English hop varieties contribute subtle herbal, peppery qualities. The beer was brewed in batches; some was fermented on oak, some was fermented normally, and some was allowed to sour in the mash tun before being transferred to a fermenter. Boulevard’s brewers, along with Dann and Martha Paquette of Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project, then blended the batches until desired levels of wood and tartness were achieved for the final product. Aroma Roasted and caramelized malts, toffee, wood, cocoa, banana, almond, mocha, brown sugar, bread crust Malt Roast, burnt, toasty, bready, rich, toasted sweet caramel Hops Subtle herbal and peppery Balance Malt Body Medium; malty body offset by acidity

Pour on tap at Royal Hilltop, dark reddish brown pour with white head, aroma brought toffee, caramel, burnt sugars, some slight earth, biscuit, sour fruits, hints of nuts, touch of red ripe fruit as well. Taste is a mix of sweet fruit, caramel, burnt sugars, hints of earth, slight sour notes, some red fruit, finishing sweet, dry. Interesting.

Corked bottle and served in one of my Duvel snifters: Pours a deep reddish-brown with a fading off-white head and good lace. The aroma has notes of almond joy candy bar (almonds, chocolate, coconut) , oak chips, banana nut bread, slight raisin and plum, and a hint of treacle. The taste is malt forward but not overly sweet has there is a slight tartness and mild acidity for balance. Not much in the way of hops found in this brew, light peppery notes are discovered however. The mouth feel is smooth and dry but a bit on the dull side. Overall, I quite enjoyed this and it did exceed my expections. FAR BETTER than the Samuel Smith version. I would NOT recommend aging this beer however. Buy now, drink now.

Nice use of dark roasts. Similar to many of the smokehouse beers that they are producing. Heavy on the roast at the front. Light berry fruit in the initial taste, hops towards the end more bitter then standard English style ales.

Tap at Smoke & Barrel. Pours clear golden. Small white ring of foam. No head. Nose is toffee and sugar. Orange candies and some cotton candy. Taste is oily, spicy, some warming alcohol. Quite rich- more sweet Abbey Tripel like. Mild spicy Belgian yeast. Weak lace. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, light beige head, with some lacing, over a slightly hazy dark amber (SRM 18) body......nose is redolent of cereals, dried fruits including raisin, plum, lighter cherry, wood, banana, with hints of cocoa, hints of hazelnut.....taste is heavy cereal, cocoa, raisin, plum, coffee, finishing with light pepper, hints of bitterness.........mouth feel thick, alcohol warmth present, carbonation adds a spritz. This is a nicely complex well balanced beer. The malts dominate, but with some restraint, along with lovely contribution from the hops. This falls well within the description of an "English Barley Wine" under the BJCP style guidelines. It is a delicious beer. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7

Bottle shared by my good friend Blake. No proper notes taken about this one but I do recall it being somewhat peppery and malty. Interesting brew.
