Collaboration #3 Stingo was brewed using traditional English ingredients. A variety of ale and specialty malts from Yorkshire are at the forefront; their pronounced roasty aroma and flavor contain hints of toffee, cocoa and bread crust. English hop varieties contribute subtle herbal, peppery qualities. The beer was brewed in batches; some was fermented on oak, some was fermented normally, and some was allowed to sour in the mash tun before being transferred to a fermenter. Boulevard’s brewers, along with Dann and Martha Paquette of Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project, then blended the batches until desired levels of wood and tartness were achieved for the final product. 750, corked and baled. Pours a murky and very dark ruddied brown. Dense creamy surging tan head that settles back, leaving lots of lace. Tangy sweet nose, almost tart, like overripe fruit. Thick, fairly flat body. Fruitcake and treacle, in a heavy bready way, on the mid palate. Odd battle between residual malt sugars and tree fruit notes, not very integrated. Tangy sweetish finish.

Pours ruby red with a medium sized khaki head. Smells of coffee, caramel, and light dark fruits. Taste is weak coffee, and mildly tart red fruits. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and fair mouth-carbonation, Boulevard Collaboration No. 3 Stingo finishes mildly tart and with some caramel sweetness.

Bottle. Pour is deep deep brown with hints of red and purple. Head is medium tan. Aroma is very nice: brown sugar malt with hints of shortbread cookie, very faint hop, and smooth vanilla candle. Flavor is rich and full with smooth and spicy roasted caramel malt dominating. Also hints of hop, black pepper, and light spice in the finish. Not much tartness in this, but it is really well balanced. Not an overwhelming beer but it is just so well balanced. Smooth and malty. Really nice.

750 ml corked and caged bottle purchased for $7.41. Poured into an older school Smokestack goblet. Color is dark brownish-ruby, too dark to see through. Head is medium sized but fades rather quickly. Aroma first hits you with malty, dark bread surrounded by light caramelized toffee. Then comes the earthy-fruit, a kind of cocoa-cherry. Makes it seem sort of oxidized but not really, its really just an earthy mustiness. It lightens the aroma making one completely forget that this is an 8.5 abv brew. Mouthfeel is medium-light, seems to just go down easy but its hard to separate that from the flavor. The flavor is cherry fruit mustiness surrounded by a malty light toffee, kind of like musty cherry bread. Leaves a long cherry bread aftertaste. Despite the commercial deScription I get low acidity. The English hops are all hidden, which English hops seems to do very well. Again, 5-6% would have been my guess at the abv. This could easily be switched out in style to a Oude Bruin, I actually get very little "English Olde Ale" in this and I would have a hard time picking this out of a lineup with some currently made Belgian Oude Bruins. I thoroughly like it, probably will pick up another bottle, this satisfies my Oude Bruin fancy. Pairs where well with sweet cherries, which I am eating right now.

Dark purpleish brown,redish hue.big fluffy head big lacing Chocoalte carmel,raison aroma sweet cherrie wood,breadyish,slight vannilla oak.The header deScription is pretty spot on. Taste is pretty complex as well,I think overall it more of a tart cherrie taste.Followed by some dry woody toast and carmel.I get the pepper but herbal is hidden behind the tart in this but you can find it.I guess it does say subtle, I would say the given above is a pretty good descrption of this beer so guess Ill be on my way now.Thanks for tuing in anyway.One thing they didnt mention though is I think there is a good balance with sweet/tart in this.

tulip. poured dark brown small white head. The smell is very much cocoa with a corn flake sent, and some honey. Up front heavy bitter almost like burned toast, also heavy sour and finished with light coffee. light and carbonated with a dry finish

750mL pours a rusty brown with a big bubbly off-white head. Aroma is an inviting mixture of toast and toffee, with just a bit of charred oak. Unfortunately, as with several recent highly-anticipated beers from our great hometown brewer, there’s something a bit off in the flavor. The English malt and hop components are here as expected, and the "sting" still shows up, but the slight metallic tinge that others have noted is fairly obvious and off-putting. I’m hoping this isn’t a widespread problem because I think this is actually a pretty good brew except the one manufacturing flaw.

Dark brown color with a large head. Light aroma, mainly yeast and malt. Oddly strong metallic taste up front, with a vinous woodiness rounding it off. As it sat and warmed, the metal seemed to fade out and some full malt, toffee, caramel and oak came out. Generally sweet.

Poured a deep brown with a whispy head. Aroma of softly roasted malt. First sip or two were very tart and metallic, but this seemed to soften a bit through the bottle.

Draft at Fire works. Pours dark brown with a thin brown head. Big molasses and brown sugar on the nose. Sweet with being cloying on the tongue with a little toffee thrown in for good measure. Little note of bitternss on the finish. Very nice!
