bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Mar 23, 2009 Pour was a pretty cloudy orange color with fluffy head. Aroma was citrus lots of orange in there. Flavor was much the same, bitter hops were there to offset the sweetness of the orange. Solid beer.
hophead21112 (110), Louisville (LEWISville), Colorado, USA Mar 23, 2009 Pours a hazy dark bronze, three finger head, excellent retention, average lacing, strange activity in the head, definitely "frothy" as mentioned previously. Citrus, pine nose. Balanced flavor with remarkable complexity. Almost.... almost a DIPA... so close! One of the most delicious IPAs i’ve been lucky enough to try. Boulevard is movin’ on up in the Denver metro area right now - now I know why. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Mar 17, 2009 Can’t remember if I scored this via a specific trade or maybe secret santa. Either way thanks! Corked bottle pours a hazy, orange amber, with a frothy, lacing, active white head. Nose was balanced citrus, oranges, lemons, some pine, grapefruit, with a hint of biscuits. Flavor was nice and also well balanced, some fruits, apricots, some light toast, biscuits, a touch of lemon. Finish was lasting bitterness and just a tad sticky. Very nice as a stand alone, but straddles the line between IPa and DIPa. daviddm (4), USA does not count Mar 16, 2009 Pours with a large head (4 fingers). Appearance is light amber with a slight cloudiness. Strong hop aroma with hints of orange rind. This IPA is a little more tart then others in this category. Delicious strong hop bitterness dominates the flavor profile. mcsquint (93), , Missouri, USA Mar 13, 2009 Poured from 750ml bottle(batch 08303) into pint glass:
Aroma - Piney and citrusy, with a bit of gold malt.
Appearance - Deep golden amber in color. Cloudy with a massive, billowy, off-white head that lasts to the last sip and coats the glass all the way to the bottom.
Flavor - Somewhat fruity. Notes of orange, grapefruit, lemon followed by apricots and peaches. Next, a nice golden malt flavor and finishes with a piney\citrus aftertaste.
Palate - Medium mouthfeel with plenty of natural carbonation.
Overall - This is my first double IPA. It’s similar to a British or East Coast IPA doubled. Very malty, but balanced with plenty of tastefully applied hops. I’m from Kansas City so I have a soft spot for Boulevard Brewery, but I can recommend this to anyone wanting to try a well balanced double IPA.
curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Mar 11, 2009 Updated: Apr 28, 2009Very hazy amber color with a great off-white head that built one inch over the glass and leaves peaks. Aroma is citrus, malt , floral hops, and pineapple. Taste is thick and complex with pine, licorice, sweet malt, and citrus. Finishes bitter and then some roast with pleasant warmth of alcohol. soccer290 (135), Highland Park, Illinois, USA Mar 11, 2009 750mL bottle. Came recommended to me by my knowledgeable liquor store employee Pours a dark amber/brown color with a finger+ high off-white thick head. Smells of apricot, citrus, caramel malt, and lots of hops. Tastes of citrus, malt, a little hop presence; a little disappointing. Very smooth going down, and not too harsh at all. Overall prettty decent, but nothing spectacular. Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Mar 10, 2009 750: Nice-looking beer; murky rust with a frothy, lasting head. Inviting nose has hints of fruity esters. Medium body; very lively carbonation, probably too sparkly. Flavors are sweet and sour, with notes of caramel, toast, toffee and fruit, such as dried apricots, pear, tangerine and lemon. Other curious elements of bitter orange peel and fermented vanilla. Evident, biting alcohol is somewhat harsh at first. Hops are pleasant (lemony, grassy, herbal) and not overplayed, yet seem to lack some aromatic depth. Malts improve a bit as the beer warms; some bitterness lingers on the tongue; carbonation mellows; and with time you become immune to the alcohol bite; so the more I drank, the more I started to like it (wasn’t so impressed at first, but it kind of grew on me halfway through the bottle).
